Complaints that AB, and in particular the News section is being commandeered by a few people obsessed with Brexit, Boris, and the perceived ills of the government, abound, so here's an idea. If enough of us post other, unrelated news, that which is either sending us to sleep or driving us to distraction will no longer dominate. If we don't make the effort to change it, it won't change, so how about it?
A visitor from a distant planet happening upon Answerbank might imagine that the only disruptive character on this site is Gulliver.
That is until someone pops up with gems like Trollsketeer, 5C and others leading to an angry interjection from somebody who will run and others respond to the clarion call.
If it's really all too much why not create an alternative haven in cyberspace where like-minded folk can get together, eventually to fight like cats in a sack or simply keep going to get the last word.
The old proprietorial thing is alive and well in 2023.
Naomi. Almost half the British voters were against Brexit. Unsurprisingly, they feel it's only fair to express their feelings. Now you are proposing to try to swamp out their comments by encouraging non-Brexit discussion.
"All you need, surely, is a new forum, perhaps under 'News', labelled 'Boring Shot' and simply move relevant threads there, and not add them to the 'latest posts' list. "
I suggested something on similar lines a few days ago - remove news items from Latest Posts on home screen and add them to the News tab. It's very demoralising to see the usual suspects' names displayed on Latest Posts, because you know damn well what topics they keep regurgitating.
It could be that all these plans and ploys are for naught when you see the difficulty in dealing with keto and gummies posts never mind fine-tuning regular input.
Maybe just lose the rallying cry and ignore stuff if it's such an affront.
I don't think your proposal will work Naomi. I tabled a good news post early this morning.
Result ? Some 12 hours later, only 2 replies.
Not the sort of hit-rate Answerbank Managers want.
They much prefer the rough stuff (e.g. the bully Gully Brigade) which generates dozens of responses - it's one reason they so rarely intervene, but allow it to continue.

This is the problem, the powers that be are disingenuous having rule 9. The trolls create traffic and that's what wanted. The fact that the majority want a better run site is ignored,
I thought that Trolls were people who deliberately used insulting or provocative language simply to wind people up and give themselves an odd sort of pleasure. I don't see Anne doing that. I do see some here who deliberately accuse people of being traitors, albeit trying to avoid specifically naming people. I find that cowardly.
you want to look in on them because youre secretly interested
Dont act like you dont have a soft spot for them toratoratora weve all seen what happens when the worst happens to people around here their sparing partners feel it the most
I'd create a new section for Hymie, Gulliver and PP and move all their posts to it. Then we could have news back.
yes !
and then we cd have wall to wall Brexit, breakfast ( pun intended) Lunch and Tea
and universal ( compulsory even) TTT washing up on every shore
you know it makes sense ! [ god that is a bit of a stretch]
