I am sick to death of reading constant attacks on people who make grammatical and spelling mistakes. Do people not understand that some of these people they are attacking with their nasty cynical ways, may in fact be mentally impaired due to accidents or brain damage or perhaps they didn't get a good school education. There are so many reasons why these people may not be up to the expectations of those who see them selves as so bl00dy superior!!!!

They/we are not all chavs!! Most of us are performing as well in society as those who see themselves as so superior! We are carrying out daily jobs of equal importance and often far more importance than those who sit in posh offices behind their computers etc, so willingly belittling others without knowing anything of their background.

When people come on AB to ask for help with problems in their lives, they should not be belittled and lambasted for their spelling or grammar mistakes. This undermines their questions and can put them off asking for help again. A little empathy goes a long way!

A sticky would be good on this please!!!!!!

No mobile signal today, the string must've got damp last night.
piggynose we already do -its called 'Mollykins Threads' :(
Ad long as a post is written in a way that is easy to understand then I probably wouldn't even notice any flaws in either spelling or grammar.

However it does amaze me how badly some people spell some words - 'cause' spelled 'cors' springs to mind. Maybe they should try teaching spelling at schools again!

I spell some words incorrectly all the time - but use a spell check thingy on my Mac.
Well in an ideal world, people would ask well thought out, grammatically correct questions, people would answer them and then the original poster would thank everyone for their time and trouble. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone was nice? However, that dosen't happen. Some people talk in text, some people render their posts incoherent with lack of grammar, some people criticize others about their spelling, some people think they are superior, some people never thank others for their answers, some people look down their noses at other people and so on ad finitum. We can't have sections for all of them, so I guess we are probably all just going to have to put up with with the particular elements of the above list we don't personally like, whether that be words spelt wrong, superior people or text speak

I used to sit in a posh office behind a computer.......
some people enjoy the belittling, it makes them feel better.

I do agree though, no one knows the person postings real life circumstances and as such a cheap shot at their spelling says more about the person belittling them than the person posting.
Perhaps, as a result of my earlier posting, I will now be put on the list of ABers to be criticized by the people whom Ratters has in mind.

It was Robert Louis Stevenson who said "The difficulty is not to write, but to write what you mean". Consequently, I am not bothered by spelling and/or grammar in the columns of AB. Surely, knowing what is meant is more important than the way it is said.

Ron.

Hopefully, I have made a valid point.

A woman without her man is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Well both of those statements are rubbish but I see your point...
I agree with your ratter. Not everyone is good at spelling anyway, but it doesnt make them any less of a person that the rest of us.
I often make mistakes when Im in a rush to type what Im thinking and I used to be a typist many moons ago.
Although, I dont think they should use textspeak in a normal post as not all of us have mobile phones and cannot understand what they are saying.
Hopkirk....In all honesty, I did understand every word of what you have written.

You have really proved the point, which I think a lot of us have in mind.

Best wishes ...Ron.

I've counted 439 spelling mistakes on this thread. When can I join the "arrogant, self righteouse, holier than though" group?

Ratter's spelling, not mine!

Did anyone else just choose NOT to read Hopkirk's post?

LOL :-))))
Confession time - I am not the author, I just cut and pasted.
