I am sick to death of reading constant attacks on people who make grammatical and spelling mistakes. Do people not understand that some of these people they are attacking with their nasty cynical ways, may in fact be mentally impaired due to accidents or brain damage or perhaps they didn't get a good school education. There are so many reasons why these people may not be up to the expectations of those who see them selves as so bl00dy superior!!!!

They/we are not all chavs!! Most of us are performing as well in society as those who see themselves as so superior! We are carrying out daily jobs of equal importance and often far more importance than those who sit in posh offices behind their computers etc, so willingly belittling others without knowing anything of their background.

When people come on AB to ask for help with problems in their lives, they should not be belittled and lambasted for their spelling or grammar mistakes. This undermines their questions and can put them off asking for help again. A little empathy goes a long way!

A sticky would be good on this please!!!!!!

> Did anyone else just choose NOT to read Hopkirk's post?

Always a sensible course of action...

Oops, sorry, bad grammar.

I love you too Mark.
Damn, forgot the comma.

I love you too, Mark.

I confess that I read Hopkirks post and understood it, probably because I used to do speedwords when I took dictation for typing as I couldnt get the hang of shorthand but when it comes to mobile text, have to struggle to read it
A sticky what?

Incase i missed it, who were you previously catscream? Not that it's relevant to the question, im just being nosy.
Is that cat scream or cat's cream? :-)))
I would love to know who's answer has been removed and the reason for it.

This thread is really interesting and is worthy of a 'sticky'.

Give us a comment ED.

i still don't understand why it's perfectly acceptable to criticize text speak but not poor spelling/grammar?
Perhaps a compromise is in order. Answer the question and then point out the mistakes?
I only point them out if they're funny.
like most of mine eh crafty :-)
That goes without saying fluff...:-)

Not that anyone will be interested....but I think ratter has got a point, I agree with you ratter. why do some people find enjoyment in posting comments that they 'hope' will sap confidence !!
'Where did we ever get the crazy idea that in order to make children do better, first we have to make them feel worse? Think of the last time you felt humiliated or treated unfairly. Did you feel like cooperating or doing better?'

i agree with you ratter, 100%.
theres no need for people to be so pedantic about such matters.
i was ridiclued not so long back by a certain someone on here for not using capital letters and apostrophes in my posts. (i put it down to just laziness when im on here, thats all)
i cant remember exactly what was said to me without checking back, but in a nut, i was told id not been educated properly and that i had learning problems..!
Question Author
bednobs, the difference is: text speak is generally speaking just a way of typing for those that cannot be bothered to type out a normal message, this way of typing is a modern thing brought about by teenagers with mobile phones.

poor grammar and spelling can also be brought about by laziness but can also be brought about by a lack of education, mental illness, poor learning ability and so many other factors that restrict their every day abilities and life, these people often really struggle to cope with everyday events, do we really need to point the finger and humiliate them!!

Personally I haven't noticed any text speak on here and I don't really have a problem with it as long as I can understand it, often I have no idea what is being said. I will then ask for clarification.

Oh, I do use a spell checker when I remember! :-)

I have also seen people asking where do they find a spell checker, these things are not obvious to everybody, it was to me!
oh, i didnt know there was a spell checker on here? i cant say ive seen it...?
if idve known, i couldve spelt ridiculed correctly up there ^^^ lol .... tut ..
