I am sick to death of reading constant attacks on people who make grammatical and spelling mistakes. Do people not understand that some of these people they are attacking with their nasty cynical ways, may in fact be mentally impaired due to accidents or brain damage or perhaps they didn't get a good school education. There are so many reasons why these people may not be up to the expectations of those who see them selves as so bl00dy superior!!!!
They/we are not all chavs!! Most of us are performing as well in society as those who see themselves as so superior! We are carrying out daily jobs of equal importance and often far more importance than those who sit in posh offices behind their computers etc, so willingly belittling others without knowing anything of their background.
When people come on AB to ask for help with problems in their lives, they should not be belittled and lambasted for their spelling or grammar mistakes. This undermines their questions and can put them off asking for help again. A little empathy goes a long way!
A sticky would be good on this please!!!!!!

For your info, my computer is operating on Firefox as its default Browser and 'spellcheck' appears to be part of its set-up.

Hi society....(i like that expression) I am going to do as you say by mispelling a word and see what happens. It certainly works because you will notice that I wrongly spelt 'misspelling' but was given the correction by a right click of my rodent.
Thanks for your having explained matters which have taught me something. Also, I feel sure loobylooo will be pleased with the info and might be more inclined to use Firefox which I have been led to believe, by our respected AB pundits, is superior to IE which a lot of folk use because it normally comes along with a new computer.

Ron,
If you are using the spellchecker in firefox might I suggest installing the below... (if you've not got it installed already)
https://addons.mozill...x/addon/3366/?src=api
It's the British English dictionary for the spell checker in firefox and will replace the standard American English one (so it will no longer try and make you spell things like colour without the U and authorise with a z)

I don't like it when people are ridiculed for their spelling or grammar, some people just don't find it that easy. It's people who simply can't be bothered that annoy me. It's so hard to read a post if there is not a single full stop anywhere and I can't understand all the abreviations of text talk. I've always thought it must be harder to think of how to shorten a word than to just write the word as it should be.
milly....I am going to support what you have said. We don't need text talk on AB and it is difficult to read correspondence which is devoid of punctuations.
However , you may find the following of interest:-

I certainly will not ridicule people on AB for their spelling and/or grammar; but it does annoy me when News on Radio and TV has been poorly written for the Newscaster to read.

Couldnt have put it any better-well said. Agree with all of your content
Spelling & grammar is not the strong point of all.
Surely the whole point of any hobby / recreational activity is the enjoyment one derives from the taking part.
I feel certain that if someone is critisised often enough for mistakes they will stop participating.
Some people can take hobbies too seriously!!!!

Hi mike....I think you have raised two points.
1) You need to have installed into your computer the British English Dictionary. So open Firefox, then click 'tools' followed by a click for 'add-ons and a further click on the box for the Dictionary.......Hopefully it should work.
2) If you are referring to late e/mails (or none whatsoever) from AB about your postings, then it may be of some comfort to know that I along with others are also in 'queer street': but the Ed is working on the problem.
