Went to a house today to do a job. They live up in the wilds & have lots of 'rescue' animals some being hens. I went out to my car & did a 'Double Take' when i saw one of the hens with a mouse! I didn't know hens ate them & nor did the owner when i told her?
Gallus gallus spsp. domesticus - the domesticated hen. Chickens are omnivores. In the wild, they often scratch at the soil to search for seeds, insects and even larger animals such as lizards or young mice.

When we had hens they were forever killing birds, woe betide any sparrow or starling that tried to steal their food and didn't move fast enough, I don't know if they would have eaten them, I removed the dead birds as fast as I found them.
They can certainly move fast, I remember my 'Old English Game Birds' chasing spiders and catching flies in mid air!
They seemed to relish bugs more than grain.
I brought my dogs in last night due the fireworks and bangers. My dogs and cat were terrified of the noise and wouldn’t stop barking all night. Tell me, what is the point of bangers really? Ok fireworks have nice lights but bangers are a waste of time. I wonder how many animals are injured this time of year as dogs chase bangers etc. Complete waste of time, my kids will be nowhere near them. Fireworks should be made illegal again and only seen at shows.
