a brief botanical note... I have just seen the oldest tree in Paris. It is a Robinia and was planted near Notre Dame in 1602, apparently by M Robin himself, who brought it back from the Americas and named it. I didn't photograph it as it was rather thin and feeble and had to be supported by flying buttresses, but it still had some leaves on even in the snow.

Those life size Jan Pienkowski silhouettes at Cahtsworth this year are beautiful...very nordic looking.
Kit hacve you looked at futons instead of a sofa bed? IMO they are better looking and I understand very comfortable. DH and I looked at getting one when our dog was old and couldn't get upstairs and needed supervision at night but we couldn't get a big enough one (DH is tall and broad with it)
Hope that those of you with the sneezles and weezles are feeling better...Shugh gave me a flying kiss the other day but missed and stuck his muddy nose in my open eye so i now have conjunctivitis and Rab has gorged on horse manure and given himself a tummy bug (down to the vets last night for an injection and anti bi's..huge fun, Rab yells at the slightest thing, howled blue murder when th vet wanted to take his temp....poor vet was only young and thought he was going to attack her, anyway he's on the mend and so am I ....just waiting to see what happens next

Woofy, why do you see the speck in your neighbour's eye but do not notice the muddy nose in your own eye...? ha ha ha... shouldn't laugh, sorry, but I see him flying through the air and missing the target... / Futons, that's a really good idea Woofgang. I looked into it a couple of years ago but didn't like the IKEA ones, and the stores which specialized in futons here in Stockholm had just closed down. But that was a while ago so the scene may have changed since then - definitely worth checking out, thanks for reminding me.

Thwacks Vinny and Neti in Robinia's absence, and jno for good measure for setting them off! Go back to Paris at once jno, we must have a piccy of that tree - it should be our logo...

I'm off out tonight to see my son playing in his band. They do a Dire Straits Tribute and are playing at a local pub. They have been rehearsing for about 12 months so they should be good, shouldn't they. I have seen them once before and enjoyed it very much. But then I'm biased aren't I?

Have we all been touched by dreadful sadness, illness or troubles this year? It seems that way.


I'm thrilled & honoured (?!) that I'm the oldest, most feeble stick in Paris, that made me chortle. Supported by buttresses? .... sounds like a good idea for me at the moment. Think I'm struggling with a low grade virus & high grade despondency. Everything has seemed to drop on me all at once & I've taken a couple of days to backtrack & hopefully creep slowly back into gear.

Well what on earth has been happening?....poor ole TCL banished & now neti's broken loose & organising her own singalongaprotest....what on earth is the Ed thinking? Corby's been around for years & I've seen him spend ages going into enormous detail helping people who are confused or at their wit's end with money/benefit probs....pah!

Sounds lovely at Chatty House Jude...would you believe I've only been once.....and it was closed! .....No, I didn't tell them I was about to visit.....

Right, I'll have an amble around & see who needs a poke in the eye....(oops, maybe wrong turn of phrase there)...whilst wrestling with the mental image of Kit being trapped in many ugly sofa beds....
