good idea douglass, I will do that
Question Author
I am sure I will arwyn thanks
If you go to Lloyds Pharmacy they will do your BP more accurately
Question Author
thank you carlton I don't mind saying I am more than a little worried at the moment ;-)
We have two different types, both vary quite a bit, personally I dont trust them, every reading is a mile from the last one in either direction.
Question Author
well I will have to give it a go RATTER
Why would one order a BP monitor from Boots and ask how accurate they were?

I was on a cuff from my GP for 24hrs to monitor my BP .

I dont get this post -are we meant to think that you dispute what your GP said OR do you think you have HBP -then you should go to GP.

Its the implications -'just what the doctor ordered'...............did he -or was that to imply one was are under more stress than anyone else.......

I just dont think some people ever see farther than their own beak -as my old mam used to say...
bobbi...excellent idea...they are indeed accurate enough to get a general trend particularly if you on on hypotensive drugs. The problem with going for a "one off" reading to you GP or to the chemist is just that "it is a one off" and doesn´t necessarily give the whole picture.
You BP may vary during different times of the day and tends to be highest in the morning, but this is very individual and with the monitor one can establish a "pattern" which might indicate whether to take the drugs at night or in the morning.

cheers sqad,
Hi

I have had one of the Lloyd's arm-band one's for a few years. It seems OK. Accuracy quoted on the blurb was ± 3%. If using long term you need to take readings at same time of day(if possible).

Hi, Scot I am ashamed to admit this but I have no idea what my BP should be
sqad?
ive had one for a few years and also have it done by my gp who has got exactly the same one as me, so if its good enough for the doctor its good enough for the patient
I dont think theres any harm in using one occassionaly. I bought one when they were on offer and did use it when I felt the need. I went through a phase of being light headed and dizzy and found that my BP was quite low. I monitered this and eventually went to GP. Eventually with tests, found it be be my eyesight ( not focusing properly or something ) Im still regularly tested. So it did help and is always there is needed.

Hope you are ok Bobbi

cheers T.O.H
it's sorting of dealing with something which is very new to me I suppose ;0)
how old are you bobbi? that'll give an indication as to what an acceptable range should be for you
last time i had my bp taken at the docs, it wasnt my usual doc and she did it by the mercury ones, so they are still being used
At my GP surgery most of the docs have both types in their rooms.
Obviously the mercury one's record the readings more accurately but as my GP once said "it depends on how good your hearing is to tell when flow stops and restarts"
So if you have a deaf doctor ensure he uses an electric one!

Im 64 bednobs
Dris-it wasn't necessary to have a go at Bobbi....she explained quite thoroughly why she's asked, and what the reasons are.

Hope you get things sorted,Bobbs.
Hi bobbi.........as long as the highest one (Systolic) is below 140 mms of Hg and the smaller (Diastolic) is not higher than 85mms of Hg then that would suit me.
