thanks sqad I admit to be totally ignorant of all things medical
pleased we have an expert like yourself on board x
Bobbi..LOL
douglas, same here, I got one from Lloyds and my doctor checked it and it is fine!
i find this chart quite useful bobbi. i've had a bp monitor for a few years now and find it very useful. i keep a note of all the readings and give them to my gp when i have a bp check with her as my bp is always higher when she takes it (white coat syndrome, which i know some people don't believe exists). as has already been said, they're accurate enough, and more importantly you can see if there's an overall trend higher or lower in your bp. worth the money in my opinion.

sqad, 140 is high, she should aim for 120, so reading should be 85/120 (ish) is healthy!
It is interesting to hear that people advice to check against the doctor´s machine.
My questions: How does one know that the doctor´s machine is accurate?
How often is a doctor´s machine calibrated?....at a guess......very rarely.

Yes, I think so ethandron, certainly wont do any harm having one
netibiza.......I disagree.
A couple of years ago I had blood pressure probs and like you bought a BP machine, I became obsessed, I was doing it all the time getting different readings all the time, I became soo stressed by it all my H hid the thing.
If I had known you wanted one I would gladly have posted it to you. It took me over, don't let it happen to you Bobbi.
My doc moniters me now every couple of months, they have found a ticker prob with me too but theyr'e keeping an eye on it.I have a scan every 6 months.

Look after yourself.

a bp of 120/85 for someone in their mid sixties is a tad unrealistic (in my opinion)
I agree totally with bednobs.
That's what mine is (with medicinal help) and heartbeat about 75
but bobbi isnt on medication (as far as i can see, although i haven't read every post closely)
