Nightmares

Might sound a bit of a stupid question, but is there anything I can take (or not take) to stop the dreadful nightmares I have almost every night? I'm beginning to dread going to bed as I know that, although I fall asleep almost immediately, I will be wakened at least three times during the night really scared/upset. No memory of these the next day.

Sorry not to get back sooner on this subject. Have read all the posts and suggestions. Think I need to change my sleep pattern which has gone haywire during lockdown. Not going to bed until 3 am, getting up at 9.30 am. Always fall asleep on the settee about 7 pm for at least an hour than binge watch TV series. Not good. I did dream last night as usual, but not a nightmare. Quite elusive but there were people in it that I used to work with back in the 80s. Not sure what that means but it was quite soothing for a change.
I'm much the same. Stay up into the early hours watching a screen of some sort. It's not recommended for a good sleep. Last night's dreams involved being in a haunted house and ghosts, but funnily enough not a nightmare. It was quite interesting!
