I Have Been Suffering With Extreme Tiredness
81 Answers
For some time now. I have had an all clear for recent illnesses. I had a ct scan, bloods taken, and biopsies taken but everything is normal. I have no energy. I've mentioned it to the doctor but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong wirh me. I'm baffled, is it worth going private ?

Choux, I don't know why you think sqad is very knowledgeabl e. How can he possibly advise Tamaris to go see a psychiatrist without knowing anything about her?

Physically, anyway.
Yes....go privately......but to a Psychiatrist.
This is you joking Sqad, please don't say you meant this.
I will apologise that you didn't mention depression, and I see you have apologised to Tamaris, so let's leave it there now.

\\\\Sqad I can't believe you think it appropriate to suggest someone should see a psychiatrist without ever setting eyes on them.\\\\
That is your problem Barsel.
It is not rocket science that all negative results from a physical condition may suggest a psychosomatic disorder, even without seeing the patient.
I am afraid that patients in the UK NHS may have to get used to the idea of diagnosis and treatment offered without actually seeing the doctor.

Tamaris, falling out with abers who do know what they are talking about or not is of no help to you .
Go back to the beginning.
Does your gps have more than one doctor ? If they do, make an appointment with them. Prior to seeing them, list your symptoms, date you first felt unwell, has any family member commented on your health ?
Good luck .

I didn't know I had a problem Sqad.

Yes, that is something I'm afraid of as well.
A friend of mine had backache and eventually went to see her GP. He sent her for tests, but nothing could be found so she went private where they asked her questions she hadn't been asked before.
Has she ever had cancer? Yes but it was over 10 yrs ago, nobody had ever told her about metastatic cancer and after further tests, she was found to have bone cancer. Now that would never have been picked up until it was too late if she hadn't gone private.

My first thought here was perimenopause, not age-related tiredness and not depression, but the OP more or less ruled that out by stating she was of retirement age. I did however think that Sqad made a valid point about the depression as that can present with the same symptom profile.
To address a point made by Barsel, if someone presents with backache with a history of malignancy, the first thing any decent Dr would do is request an MRI to exclude metastatic disease. It's not something that would only happen in a private setting.

Lady CG when my friend was seeing a GP, he never mentioned metastatic cancer. It wasn't until she decided to go private that this was mentioned to her and it came as a terrible shock.
I think we have to accept that some GPs are more thorough than others, and it doesn't help that you often see a different doctor every time you visit the surgery.
Fortunately, my friend has a very rich son-in-law who has put her on his private insurance and she is having treatment that hopefully will prolong her life.
We have been best friends for just over 70 yrs.

There are good and bad Practitioners in every corner of medicine. Provision of care from the Primary Care setting has sadly gone downhill since the pandemic, although I myself am very fortunate to be registered at an excellent GP Practice. I submitted an online form last week for my husband due to his ongoing cough and within hours he was seen and prescribed a course of Doxycyline.
I am sorry to hear about your friend. I am at a loss as to why the GP didn't automatically request an MRI given her history of malignancy - it's a pretty standard thing to do where I work.

Lady CG, like you I am fortunate enough to be registered with a good practice and the GP I see seems to find plenty of time for me, and he knows me well.
Unfortunately, some GPs are already writing a prescription out for you before you've finished talking and my friend seems to have gone to see someone who has obviously slipped up and let her slip through the net.
I'm just pleased she is now under excellent care.

I've just submitted and online form to my GP about having antibiotic cover for when I go on holiday next week in the event that my cough does not resolve by then. I submitted the form at 08:23 and had a message back at 08:31 to say that I was booked in for triage with the Paramedic at 10:20 this morning. I called the Practice to explain that I was having RTT training on Teams at that time and she said no problem, she would get the Paramedic to call me some time this morning.
I really couldn't not ask for better care. Sorry to hijack your thread, Tamaris, but I didn't want to start another thread just to mention that.
