I am writing a script and I was wondering what the machine is called that sends electical pulses to your heart when someone has flatlined in a hopsital.

I think your talking about a defibrillator pughee. Google it and check that's right!
Defibrillator... at least here in the U.S.

No problems pughee, good luck with your script.

Sorry to be a pain but a defibrillator does not help when someone has flatlined . That is when manual chest compressions are done.


A defibrillator shocks the heart out of rythmns that cause an ineffective output, such as VF (ventricular FIBRILLATION) hence the word deFIBRILLATOR

alijangra is correct, despite what you so often see in films and TV, a defib is not used if a patient has 'flatlined', (the correct term is 'asystole'), in short it cannot DE fibrillate if there is no fibrillation in the first place! In this case drugs are given first to stimulatethe elecrtical activity in the myocardium (heart muscle).
its the machine that goes 'ping!'
Thank god there are other peolple out there that know you cannot defib somebody out of a flatline (asystole)
