Can anyone tell me if Osteoporosis is hereditary....

As far as im aware it is hereditary but also has to do with lifestyle and whether you have had breakages or certain operations such as a back op. You are more likely to get it if your parents have had it as it shows bone thinning during a lifetime - something we all get but depends on what degree. Try a search engine perhaps for more info. This is just what i remember on the poster in physio after my back op.
Osteoporosis can be hereditary, but can be put off a lot later by taking calcium/taking dairy products. My Gran has it, and my mum has to watch how much calcium she gets as she is nearing 50.

Funny yuo should ask this. I was asked to take part in some research to determine whether or not it is as my mother suffers from the condition.


They bone scanned all my immediate familly - in my case ( despite being built on the somewhat solid side) I was in the bottom quartile and my sister was below this.


It's not often appreciated that men are at risk from this too, there's something like 2-3 million male sufferers in the US.


I believe that there is a hereditary factor although it's far from a certainty that it'll affect you too
