if this isn't a wind up listen very carefully.
1)Call the Police
2)get out of sight of the object at least 100 meters
3) Do NOT touch or approach the object let the RLC EOD Dept deal with it
Oh, and if it's in a building, evacuate everyone immediatly
Question Author
not a wind up, ive had this object years! but i saw a news article about a company who had been using a bomb as a doorstop cos they didnt know what it was. the picture they showed was incredibly similar to the object i have - which looks like a copper milk jug, with 2 lifting lugs and it weighs an absolute ton for the size of it????
Hit it with a spade
its a ''shovel'' rever

Don't go upsetting the PC brigade :-}
great answer from John but he forgot to ask if you can give us an idea of where you live so we can all move away a bit :)
Call the police and explain that you saw a similar object on the news, they will send someone out quick sharp!!!
Call the police, the blokes where I work found a bomb once, its was on the radio and the news they excavated everyone within so many miles only to find it was the end of a bottle :-)
get someone round that you dont like ,get em to hold it for you then tell em what it is !!!! or failing that call the rozzers
Where did you get it from mandimoo?
ffs, invite the police to have a look at it, it sounds like it could be the business end of on artillary shell, the part that holds the propellant, let me explain, when an artillary round is fired from a gun, there is a small expolsion which sets of the propellant, this propellant rapidly expands and seperates the shell (the object I think you may have) from the warhead (the bit that flies out of the gun towards the enemy). It is extremly dangerous and if it still holds the propellant needs to be gotten rid of
Can I ask where you got it from? your grandad wasn't an Artilliaryman during WW2 was he>
Pixaxe then, so whern it splits open you can see the wires and the clock....
my grandfather once had an old chest of drawers full of bullets from WW2. My dad discovered the chest hidden in the back of a huge shed, and panicked! He called the police who sent specialists to take the ammunition away. Apparently the bullets were so degraded, then could have exploded at any time.

As others have said, call the police ASAP
its 20 minutes since mandimmo posted.

And the clocks ticking!!
I think I have a bomb in my possession. I know, the first thing I'll do is post a question on AB about it...........
will you let us know mandimoo whether it is a bomb or not?????
Maybe she is on the phone to the police
The police will have told her to get out of the house until they get there I would think so unless she's on a laptop we won't get a reply for some time.
She should be legging it as fast as her wee legs can carry her, anyone here ever see what a bomb does to people? not pretty I can tell you
here are some injuries from a small bomb in Northern Ireland, (dont look if you are feeling queezy)
