I have an ultrasound at 8 o clock this evening and I have lost the letter, admittedly, I might find it again but just in case, I remember it saying I couldn't eat for 6 hours before hand but cant remember if it said I couldn't drink either. Its to check on gall stones if that helps.

So can I drink?

hi, I googled it quickly, it says you should avoid eating for 8 - 12 hours before but it doesnt say anything about liquid so I would presume you would be ok x
would it not be best to phone the clinic were you are having ultrasound done simple as
arent you supposed to have a full bladder?
Your bladder should be 'comfortably full'

yes your stomach should be full of water they can see better but just be warned if you need to go to the toilet they won't let you till you have had it done so timing is everything.
yes goodsoulette, as the others have said, ensure you have a full bladder before you have the ultrasound, try not to go to the toilet for about an hour before, and it's best if you don't think about slowly dripping taps,

or the sound of a gentle stream, where the water splashes over some rocks

or giant waves crashing onto the shore

good luck with the ultrasound, hope everythings ok
drip drip drop little april showers :-)

Phoned them ( I dont know why I didnt think of it,just woken up I spose) its no food or drink for 6 hours. Minimises the air in my stomach and bowel apparently.
You need a full bladder for the ultrasound when you are pregnant to provide a window for the waves. It provides better conduction for the sound waves. As the bladder is nowhere near my gall bladder I suppose this makes no difference.
I wondered why a full bladder was essential for looking at your gall bladder :)

Best of Luck!
Good luck GS. I'm off to have a bacon sandwich.

awww... i miss bacon.
Nevermind my dear :( Cheer yourself up with 'Keys to the City' by The Go! Team if you can find it. Like listening to a mariachi trumpeter tuning tuning up with a school band, and then given a Norman Cook remix. If that doesn't put a smile on your face, you're musically dead. Dead.
Hope all goes well poppet.

I'd hate to loose one of my only female partners in News due to lack of bacon and drink consumption. xx
Good luck, Goodie!

I haven't had any ultrasounds apart from when I was pregnant..and we all know you need to drink loads to the point of peeing yourself for those.

When I have had fasting blood tests I was told I could drink water and a couple of cups of tea with no sugar. This may be the same for you?

nope lol Pippa, nothing! I cant eat anything with fat in it at the moment without keeling over for 2 hours in agony (worst thing outside of childbirth I have ever felt, apart from maybe a torn tendon in my ankle). Its funny though, I know these things end up causing me agony but a week or so ago, I ate a tonne of chocolate, 2 hours later on my knees sobbing and I am tough by the way.

Thanks for all the well wishes tho.
Oh bu88er, I missed your last post about phoning them!

Awwww ~ my mum had the same thing. Apparently she suffered with her gall bladder from the time I was born in 1968 up until she had it taken out in 1986!

Hopefully it won't be long until your agony ends.. x

I love stories like those Pip, got anymore. Mine came on through pregnancy and got worse cos of my love of the crash diet.
Again, exactly like my mother!

Hers took an age to sort out mainly because she could never be bothered to go to the doctors. She enjoys suffering in silence with regards to doctors...but we heard all about it ;o)
On the plus side a no fat diet must be doing wonders for your figure, I'm almost jealous.
Best o' Luck hon xxx
