Fief Guerin Single Vineyard Muscadet.

This beautifully enticing white from the Western side of the Loire Valley is packed with crisp fruity favours and delightful floral aromas. This is a complex wine, which has great body and superb length on the palate. Perfect with Asian food, traditional roast turkey or even a cold meat platter on Boxing Day.

Available in Wairose for the normal price of £6.99.

NoM, bought the falanghina you recommended last week (bought two actually, drank one) and thoroughly agree with what you said, a very, very lovely wine. also bought a fiano sicillian white from asda ex. sp. range. haven't tried it yet but the lable says 'intense aromas of passion fruit, lemon and ripe apple, delicious with caesar salad or seafood'. maybe try it tomorrow with some salmon pasta.

Hi Ethandron. I very nearly picked up an Incyon Sicilian Fiano this evening, but opted for the Muscadet instead. I would be very interested to hear your verdict.

Asda's Extra Special range is superb - their Primitivo leaves Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Primitivo in the shade.
will let you know :)
we always bring back muscadet and touraine from france, i enjoy both of those wines so if the fiano is anything like muscadet then i think i'll enjoy it.
i too am very impressed with the ex. sp. range, although i've only bought the reds so far. they're such good value for some really terrific wines.
Aldi update ....

The Chablis (£6.99) is very good - flinty, clean and lovely with a pork pie :)

The Bordeaux Superior (£4.99) is very disappointing - thin, acidic and no real character - it's also a bit of a con having a Decanter Award badge for the 2009 vintage printed on the 2010 label

Why was the train.....sorry thought you said "whine"

Thanks Dave. I do like a good Chablis.
sunnydave, i have a bottle of the very same chablis sitting in my wine rack. thought i'd save it till christmas day, good to know it's a good'n :) aldi stock some really good wines...and some really awful ones too it has to be said, although it's always worth trying one that takes your fancy. i'll avoid the bordeaux you mention.
Moulin des Dames Bergerac sec 14.5%, probably the finest white wine I've ever had the pleasure of drinking, and I normally prefer reds.
jd, it would need to be a very, very good wine for me to pay the £25 it's advertised at!!
when there are so many excellent wines around for less than a tenner, i really would be hard pushed to justify spending that sort of money. would be nice to sample it though :)
ethandron, I'm happy to say that it was given to me because I'd be hard pushed to pay that sort of money for a bottle of wine. Keeping well in with the donor in anticipation........

I agree that Aldi are stocking some good wines at the moment.

I think the demand for better quality wines has been there for some time and the supermarkets have risen to the challenge.
I had a glass or 2 earlier,of some fine Scottish wine.Dont know the year, but it had a bird on the label..a famous Grouse!
Question Author
Some say that Grouse is quite perfumed?

I seldom drink the stuff and tend to murder it with coke when I do drink it.
Not a fan of blends at all - much prefer single malts...
Question Author
I think most Whisky fans do, Mark.

Have you tried Lagavulin?
Whisky is the last thing on my list to pick up apart from a bottle of sherry to hit while cooking christmas lunch tried quite a few but open to an interesting suggestion.

Hey Rowan. My mother and I did the German Market last Saturday. We really enjoyed it.
have to say, the fiano smelled better than it tasted, not really to my taste at all, quite metalic and none of the passion fruit/ripe apples it promised...well, not on my palate. almost reminded me of a chardonnay, a wine i used to like but haven't bought or enjoyed for a couple of years. not a wine i would buy again sadly.
Question Author
Hi Ethandron. Strangely I am having a glass of the Fiano right now and I rather like it. It's very dry and bold and unmistakably Italian. Would definitely partner Spicy Asian cuisine.

I would buy it again.

Have you tried their Extra Special Viognier? One of the best I have tasted!
