does anyone know where I can buy maple sugar, cream and butter from a uk mail order company? I know I can get it straight from Canada and the US but the p and p and customs make this very expensive.

my dad went into the RHA when he joined the army at 15, lied about his age so he could get out of the orphanage. He was a country boy and went into J Troup which is where the recruits went to train to go into the mounted troop. At the time there was a weight and height limit for the mounted soldiers and my dad was a stocky bloke (rugby player) and as he grew, he exceeded the weight limit so got moved out of J Troop.
Chilly this mor I g. I've just spent 59€ on postage to uk and lits of custom forms to fill in and they are sick of Brexit on and off so we are just going ahead with it here!
We have a dehumidifier in our rock and mud room (hija's room)and it pumps the damp out 24/7. I keep having to empty it! Bathroom is now showing black in places so I have to bleach that again, happens every year. Will wear a face mask as it kills the chest!!

hello all, more blooming fireworks last night so we have had a relaxed and pottering day today. I have finished painting a replaced head on a piece of china, done some tidying up, finished some christmas cards and my paint palettes are in soak as I have a bad habit of letting acrylic paint dry on them,
We visited an air craft carrier today The Juan Carlos 1. So interesting but so cold and windy. We entered via the vehicle ramp at the side and then climbed about six flights of very narrow stairs which I managed. The flight deck was amazing with lifts and cranes and huge helicopters. But then we had to descend six levels of stairs and they had such a narrow tread , I held everyone up but was so nervous of slipping. There was another old guy there and a sailor made him go down backwards and helped him. I tried to get one but Mr N told me to behave!! Then as we were leaving down the ramp and I was clinging on to Mr N and suddenly it dipped and Mr N went shooting off at a rate of knots and as I was clinging on I had to run too. I am amazed we didnt end up in a pile! Still we enjoyed it! But so cold here
We are staying in but Mr N has to go to butchers later and we forgot to buy a leg of lamb for tomorrow!!! Does life get anymore exciting?
And woofy I was telling Mr N that you went on ships with your husband. He says was it the Merchant navy?
Sounds great fun Neti. I love anything like that.Reminds me of going round HMS Belfast .That was all up and down ladders. I'd probably get stuck between decks these days :)
Dry here but cold.
Question Author
yes Neti it was the Merc
Mr N cooked a lovely roast lamb dinner. And it was a cold, breezy but sunny day, washing dried quickly
We are just lazing in lounge all warm and toasty
I do love winter!!
that's nice, the new Bo-Op have just delivered a bag of choc chip cookies to say "thanks for having us in your neighbourhood".

OH has of course checked them out and reports that their prices are more in line with the little Tesco Metros and Sainsburys than with the medium/large size supermarkets, ie higher, though it is medium size itself.

Nice to have it there, the supermarket that was there before was always rumoured to be a front for laundering drug money.

lovely :) we have had a bright cold DRY day here which is a pleasant change and no fireworks last night :)

Nice bright one but cold.Could do with more days like this after all the rain.

Am waiting for a call from local hospital for a preferente mammogram as medico was a tad concerned about the pain in my left armpit and breast. But she cant feel anything so fingers crossed!
Nice sunny chilly day here. Have washed kingsize bedding and it is early dry!
Hope you are all.ok.
Woofy why am I being sent to gynea for a mammogram and not xrays. Its says mastalgia?
And in the meantime I have apply heat to armpit!
Question Author
mastalgia is breast pain and a mammogram is a breast x ray
Question Author
it sounds to me as though the medico you saw thinks that you have got an infected or blocked gland and the heat will help to soothe it. a poultice on an infection is quite an old idea and still used
Thanks woofy that's encouraging! But as for preferente! Ha!
the idea was to go to a couple of exhibitions today but OH suddenly collapsed while getting dressed so we spent the day at the hospital instead. The string of tests didn't show any cause for it but we think it was because of the iron infusion (for anaemia) yesterday - though the doc did check this out and couldn't find any evidence. Oh well, we are back home now and a bit exhausted but otherwise functional. Still, completely unconscious for 15 minutes, for no reason, is worrying.
Crikey Jno and you too Neti. Sorry to hear these woes.
I agree with Woofy, Neti.Sounds like mastalgia rather than anything untoward but at least they're on the ball.Hope you soon feel better.
Hope your OH soon feels better too Jno.Worrying for you.Could it have been low blood pressure?
Funnily enough my brother is undergoing tests atm because he thinks he's anaemic. He's a bit of worry wort lately ,healthwise.I told him to eat more liver :)
Hopefully your OH will feel better after a good nights sleep.
Morning all from a rather chilly Mediterranean island. I have a cold! Shaney last night I watched The good liar
I knew she'd have a come back but not their history! Good film. Still waiting for Tye Crown!! Have finally taken my laptop into be repaired and saw a canon wireless printer for €34, which is quite cheap so will hopefully get it this week. We have a Canon at the mo and the inks are cheaper than HP!
