sauces in a jar

What are best sauces you can buy eg curry and sweet and sour. I have tried a few but found them pretty bland.

Anyway decided to try Sainsburys basic and they were basic. Any ideas of a rea macoy of a curry etc.

dont usually use jars make my own but if stuck Lloyd Grossmans are quite good, and i have noticed that they have restuarant sauces like the baltic capitals of the uk bradford not bad i might say quite pricey but you can tell the difference give them a go not a major brand but produced like the resturants recipe!

Patak's currys pastes are excellent, very easy and tasty.

I would agree with Puddicat. Lloyd Grossman sauces are quite good.

Lidl has lloyds grossmans sauces at �1 just now.

grossmans beat pataks they are to strong! what i meant is that some small restuarants from bradford are marketing there on sauces, they are so good i tweek them a little depends on individual tastes try either the coop or morrisons for them probably the other have them also happy cookin!!!

PATAKS !!!!! Especially the Vindaloo sauce in the large jar, it is not as hot as it should be, so you need to zap it up with extra scotch bonnets, ginger, and garlic, but it is a brilliant start for an Indian meal and saves all that pfaffing about with ground spices and pestles.

Sprinkle with fresh coriander leaves as you serve.

I use Pataks, the sauces and paste to add oomph to a curry!

They're very good.

Marks and Spencer Sichuan Sauce, delicious stirred fried with king prawns, mixed peppers, mushrooms, chillies, garlic, waterchestnuts and beansprouts served with boiled rice.

Lidl's own brand tikka masala and korma are superb.

I have most of the sauces mentioned except Lloyds;

I have used Lidl and Pataks - Pataks were not strong enough for me as I say - I like a real hot curry.

Maybe you could try adding some or extra chilies to your curry!!

That'll make it hotter!!

The best ones I've found are the M+S ones, but Asda also do a Chinese style curry which isn't bad.

Also the Tesco Finest Green Curry is quite good (as far as jar sauces go) although not overly spicy

I agree with funnygirl over adding chillies. I tend to use Lloyd Grossman (even my 7 + 6 yr olds and husband prefer him) Also though before adding sauce also add my own onions peppers etc to pan, that makes all differance and is quick if you don't want to do all from scratch

Just wanted to add another vote for the Lloyd Grossmans. They're not the cheapest but they're pretty good.

Sainsburys sweet and sour 75p a jar is good
it has pineapple and bits etc ..Asda chinese
curry sauce is mrthe favourite but I do add
mushrooms ...everyone to their taste buds ...

Forgot to mention if you are into really hot curries there are a couple of ebay shops ( curry frenzy ) that supply all the spices/ingrediants you need including cooking instructions, can't get more authentic than that
