You can make your own 'decent' sauce with a tin or two of value chopped tomatoes.....and a stock cube...or a clove of garlic. You DON't need shop-bought sauces with all their salt and sugar..
Im sorry poodi, but you're missing the point entirely here.

I'm presuming, that like me that despite pleading poverty and having to watch our pennies carefully, we're not really on the breadline at all. We can always produce money to do shopping with.

Now imagine you really haven't got a pot to pi$$ in and nothing in the cupboards, kids to feed etc. You will buy cheapest before best. I'm willing to bet anything that you'll then plumb (plump?) for the 50p pasta and 66p sauce before the leg of lamb, no matter how cheap it was!
Sigh, am I the only one who thinks the way I do?

pasta- add up the tin of toms, a box of stock cubes and garlic.....then please compare that to a jar of smartprice sauce....

Was only trying to have a laugh boo,i can well understand how hard it is, i have been there,i brought my 2 sons up on my own from the age of 10 and 12 and only had a pittance of maintenance,i could open the fridge and make a meal out of a couple of eggs and some mangy tomatoes!
A quick google showed me that Tesco Value chopped tomatoes and stockcubes are 35p and 19p respectively.
And the stock cubes will do several meals.....I didn't check Value Pasta.....but even that is most likely less than the 50p you quoted..
And the garlic?
lol @ Boo

She wouldnt let it lie society lol
I see Boo's point. :-)
Well as I'm a pensioner I won't be having a Sunday roast either...........so I've opted for moules mariniere with garlic bread, and there won't be any leftovers.
However I often have pasta as it's something easy to cook for one person. :-)

To a certain extent, but my original thread was meant to be lighthearted

"rofl, decent sauce? LOL

justin- what planet are you on? I'm assuming Poodi is quoting an article somewhere. So you're telling me, hard up families, who HAVE to watch every penny are all that bothered about "decent" sauce? They'll pick the cheapest and hope for the best, and I can't say I blame them."

What's with the aggressive reply? I was merely making an observation based on my own tastes. You need to drop the attitude and calm down.
Question Author
Are mussels cheap then craft?
No.......but I don't waste any, which I would with a Sunday roast.
Question Author
Thats where differ craft i wouldnt, but get your point!
poodi when my daughter was younger and I was divorced, first time around, my most used cookbook was 100 things to do with mince.......she's grown up okay.
Question Author
Sorry craft a comedian in scotland took the mince out of that lol,can understand we do agree that you have good meals using meat!
Craft. When I was younger I had a book. 500 ways with mince and believe me I tried every one of them. The only way I can eat mince now is Spag Bol. Thankfully I am not short of money anymore.
Question Author
