A friend (who has been a veg grower for years) has had a crop of potatoes that are semi-transparent & too hard to eat after cooking whether boiled or slow roasted.
Any ideas as to what the reason might be? he doesn't remember the variety name, they weren't his usual choice. Thanks.

They covered it in in varnish so it wouldn't melt in your mouth more like, Vinny=:0 *crying in her curry* Oh okay, thanks Neti, that's good info, I probably won't buy it after all, then.
Kit have you thought of a slow cooker? Very energy efficient.
Did a good stock up at m and s today..their dine in offers are nice this time so I had two lots...useful to have fast food (and reasonably healthy) while DH is in jug as I visit late afternoon and can come home and shove something in the oven or nuke it.
I also got a new winter fleece. It was in the mens' Blue Harbour range but I can't find it online to show you. Its sort of cafe au lait teddy bear coloured with a furry lining and a hood and ribbed cuffs and ribbed round the bottom of the jacket to keep the breezes out. Baggy enough to get a sweater under too. Hallelujah i am starting to feel the cold again...after goodness knows how many years of personal summers its wonderful.
oh, I've got a friend in Seaford, though she pines a bit for Lewes where she used to live. You don't get the same Bonfire Nights in Seaford.

<tut...they all say they're domestic gods/goddesses but they didn't answer my Q>

Sorry Robi but I thought your own recipe (the baking soda the name of which escapes me) was a panacea - or shouldn't you use it on steel?

Slow cookers aren't good with beans and vegetables Woofy http://en.wikipedia.o..._cooker#Disadvantages so for me as a veggie they wouldn't be the best choice - 'preciate the thought though.
that's the bunny Robi...lovely and snuggly not sure why they are calling it suedette...its all fleecy and woolly.
I don't know how to get the brown pasta marks off....not sure why you should get marks in the first place, we are huge pasta eaters (I mean we eat pasta frequently, not we are huge because we eat pasta) and my pans don't mark...have you got very minerally water perhaps? Mine have pitted a bit in the base from my habit of salting water (pasta only) before the water is hot so the salt sinks instead of melting immediately, but no brown marks.
fleece, uh, bit on the flimsy side

to be worn with a duvet on top, I think.
Speaking of criminal records online... one of my friends has put her trust in a lowlife, a rapist, a paedophile and a conman. She is one of my dearest friends. Very bright but far too trusting, in my opiniation. (And she probably thinks I'm an old cynic.) I don't want to go into detail online and I won't "print" his name here as I don't want it to come up in a google search my friend or somebody in that particular community might do, and for the same reason I would ask that none of you "say" his name here, please, thank you. You'll find both his surnames in the article, I believe he uses one or the other, not both at the same time (but I'm not sure).

What I'm wondering is if there's any way of looking into possible charges and/or convictions while he was still living in Britain? http://www.timesonlin...me/article4265658.ece
jno, the bonfire parade at Lewes is legendary, used to frighten me something terrible and that was back in the early 60's, it's even bigger now!

Seaford is a lovely little town!

That could be handy for shoplifting jno.

Men's fleeces are always more heavy duty than women's woofy...do they think we all trip about in strappy pink frocks & no coat?

'my own recipe' Kit?...haha did I have one?
http://img715.imagesh...img715/4606/mindx.jpg
I may have mentioned bicarbonate of soda at some time for something...I just don't want to make them dull or anything & I don't know why it happens, the water here is reasonably soft I'd say.

Ooh, that all looks very worrying about your friend Kit and there's not a lot you can do but hope she loses interest in him.
No matter who tries to research our family history on my dad's side they all come up against a blank wall...I don't think I want to know anymore, haha

Neti, how can you like this climate? It hasn't stopped raining all day, grrrr...

<<< oooh, there are some tetchy folks out there, must be the weather, I think I'll stay away tonight. The mood I'm in I might just get too involved.
well apart from googling and looking for newspaper reports I don't think so
ha Robi, you and me both...I have been channelling Mrs T tonight
getting tea stains offa mugs, robi
Mrs T...?
Thatcher...
Oh! ♪♫ unforgettable ♫♪ I'll never forget what my mother said when she saw me the day Thather became prime minister: I thought you'd be wearing black today...?
Thatcher, even
I'm not sure, Kit... but there's always Google... I used to use bicarbonate of soda to get battery acid off the terminals in my little Mini, back in the days when you lifted the lid and did your own car maintenance. Nowadays if you unhook the bonnet it lights up a computer in the factory and invalidates your insurance.
Evening chooks
And a horrid wet and windy one it is too.
An embezzler in the family eh Jno ? We have a bigamist !

I've decided to buy my brother a book for Christmas .If I can find one entitled "How to pour your sister a drink in a smaller container than a bucket ".
Sheesh ..I had a headache and a half this morning .

I know Seaford .I have a friend who lived there for while and visited her a few times Lovely little place .They moved there from London to retire but are now living in Spain.

Oh Kit that sounds dreadful for your friend .Some people are so gullible .He obviously preys on vulnerable women .Bloody swine .
BTW I cook veg and beans in my slow cooker and have done for thirty years :) Lentil stew was always on when we were short of cash .
Hope all your ailments are little ones .I'm just going to have a breeze round then I'm off to bed as it's early doors for the farmers Market in the morning ,bumming round Beccles .
Take care all ..Nighty night .
