I don't know how Dyson get around Trading Standards with their TV advert that claims "never loses suction". The only answer must be "but neither does any other vacuum cleaner", i.e., The dirt collector may be full, the hose may be blocked, the filter may be choked, and nothing's being picked up - but that motor's still sucking away, folks !!" Mine stopped picking up anything within 5 minutes from new with a blocked filter, through trying to clean up plaster dust. Should have read the instructions that say not to do anything like that. WHAT?? my mum's 55 year old Electrolux cylinder model could have handled that! Use the hose to clean up to 13 steps on your stairway? Sure, if you have a tug-of-war team at each end, one team hauling on the hose, the other weighing down the vacuum cleaner. Otherwise it'll fall over, and follow you up the stairs by about the 5th step. No - we paid a lot of money for it, it drove the wife to tears, and we used it about 3 times before stowing it away for good. Heavy, awkward to try and lift, fiddly bits all over it. Dyson must have got his design awards from people who never used a vacuum cleaner in their lives, especially his. Please don't be conned by all the hype.
I have a Dyson Animal as well. It's OK but very heavy (I find it too difficult to carry up the stairs) and, I must admit, not very well made. My engineering son is totally unimpressed with the quality and the bad fit of the seels. Difficult to use on the stairs as well.
I prefer an upright cleaner. Am not in a hurry to replace the Dyson as at least it does get rid of the animal hairs, but won't buy another one. Do Miele do an upright?
Like ACB312 - We have got a SEBO Turbo Upright X1.1. It is made in Germany, is quite expensive, but well worth it. It is absolutely fantastic & after having several other vac cleaners over the years, we wouldn't buy anything else now.
As Wispy68 has said, she's always borrowing it, even though they have their own Henry!
