I don't think that Gromit is attempting to "score points" with his question. The fact that this tragedy happened in the Grand Mosque in Mecca must surly beg the question, "What was Allah thinking?". This structure is *the* most holy structure in the whole is Islam, situated in the *the* most holy city in the entire Islamic world - Mecca. If Allah is a literal god and has all the trappings of such a deity - omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence - how and why would he allow such a calamity to occur?
I'm sorry to say that your comparison to the Malaysia Airlines passenger jet [MH370] crash on 17th July 2014 (to which I assume you are referring) is not valid in this context. While undoubtedly a tragedy, it goes without saying that Malaysian Airlines is not mentioned in the Koran nor any other Islamic scripture. I'm not being facetious here, I'm deadly serious.
This kind of catastrophe goes to the very heart of the matter as to what a supreme deity is capable of and responsible for.
