try brainstorming so that you have all your ideas planned out on paper before you try to write it out in full.

a)think about what attributes you have - organisation etc.

b)think about what you have done - charity work, school orchestra etc. focus on the things that you have done that are related to the subject you want to study to prove that you have a real interest.

c) think about why you want to do the course you want to do (what course is it btw?)

d) now try and link your skills and experiences to the course. in other words try and prove that you are the perfect student for the course. try and demonstrate a passion for the subject - university lecturers love people as keen as they are!

Good luck!

Agree with Kaz

Dunno what Kaz thinks but when you have finished what Kaz suggested, try to prioritize the items so that the least important or least relevant are at the end. If people have alot of statements or CVs to read they tend to read the first part in detail then begin to speed up half way through thereby possibly skipping certain points, so any important points should be near to the beginning.

Good Luck

read through university prospectuses and see what they want, then reword it a bit. If geography departments insist they will make you an expert in earth sciences and capable of dealing with global warming challenges to come, tell them you want to be able to deal with the effects of climate change in the future...

I'm not suggesting you simply cut and paste stuff cynically; work out what you want to do, but try to align it with what they think they can help you do. Good luck.

You should look on the Ucas website - they have a really good section to help you write it - i used that and i got a place :-) therefore - i am one happy person.

A good personal statement contains the following qualities (in no order):

* That you are able to read the specifications for entry onto the course and meet its requirements

* That you fulfil the requirements to join the course

* That you are an interesting person above and beyond the areas of academic study (not stuff like... shopping, drinking, clubbing). Something that ties in with the subject area

* That you wish to pursue a career or higher studies in the subject area in the future (many establishements have masters and doctrate places to fill)

The UCAS guidelines are good and I hope that these comments help.

I am an admissions tutor for FD and D programmes and I get this question rateher a lot.
