Do you think the outcome of the sueing by those two gay men against the christian hotel owners would have been the same if the hotel owners were of a different religion (that's equally against homosexuality) such as Islam?

You haven't broken the law Doc!

As far as I know anyway ;o)
You are determined to miss the point aren't you?

Anyone is entitled to be <<<uneasy with the idea of same sex couples. >>>

That shouldn't stop them from providing the hotel accommodation they were obliged by law to provide in their commercial premises.

That is what they were prosecuted for - not because they were <<<uneasy>>>
.
Surely the act of discrimination is *more* shameful, doc.

I'm not asking you to approve of me, but I'll fight for my right to be treated the same as everybody else......!!!
Maybe if there were 'gay only' hotels problems like this wouldn't arise
Maybe if people followed the law, joeluke, problems like this wouldn't arise...........
Discrimination against someone because of their sexual orientation is bigotted.

Definition "a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion".
Hotels will turn a prostitute and her client away

Isn't that discrimination? Could she not sue and receive £1800 too?

Then that definition applies to many individual Muslims and states. It was the reason why India was partioned and is the main reason why Sudan is about to be split into two.
Redhelen......there are gay pubs so why not gay guesthouses?

Keeps it all under the same roof then
No..........because there is no law against doing that.

Which part of the concept of following legal statutes are you having trouble with ?
There ARE gay pubs, and gay guesthouses. But anyone can go in them,if they so choose. If the owner of a gay guesthouse refused me entry...I too could sue.
The law's an ass

Why couldn't these 2 'men' just accept that the hotel owners were uncomfortable with what they were and find another hotel who would accept them?
Because the law says that they shouldn't have to, joeluke...............is understanding dawning, at all ?
-- answer removed --
jth......huge gap between me understanding it and me EVER accepting it I'm afraid
Helen.....in plenty of peoples eyes they are in the wrong
Despite what the law says or may not say, I would never go to a place where I was not welcome and making other people uncomfortable in the process. Although they were legally in the right, I think these two guys were just trying it on and have successfully managed to squeeze £3,600 and a lot of publicity out of the system. I have no sympathy for them and I suspect that many gay friends of my acquaintance will feel the same.
This was a set up by Stonewall,

Yesterday, at Bristol County Court Bernie Quinn, who works at the hotel, hinted that Mr Preddy and Mr Hall's booking was a set-up.

Mr Quinn explained that gay rights organisation Stonewall had written to Mr and Mrs Bull a month earlier advising them of new equality legislation.

He told the court that hours before Mr Preddy had made a telephone booking in September 2008 he spoke to a ''Mrs Preddy'' regarding a double room.

The claimants' barrister, Catherine Casserley, asked Mr Quinn: ''Are you suggesting this claim was a set-up?''

Mr Quinn agreed and added: ''It is not beyond the realms of possibility. I have no proof other than the phone call.

''I cannot assume for them what their motivations were or weren't. I assumed, going back to the phone call, that we were expecting a Mr and Mrs Preddy and what arrived was two gentlemen.''
