James is pulling Louis Smith's leg and he is bravely trying some fairly strange new (for him) foods. Poor soul even got food hell (squid) instead of food heaven (chicken) and then James showed him the beautifully cooked chicken and whisked it away again and made him eat the squid. What a nice young man!

A glass plate exploded in microwave tonight. Shattered into small pieces. Poor Mr N didnt get his carrotts and peas with his liver dinner. I had to have reheated stew in a saucepan. Was scared to use microwave. Freezer broken, microwave exploding! Back porch light not working and a kitchen halogen light not working! Cat going screwy again, what is happening?

Stifling here, though only 80 degrees or so, I don't know why it seems so much hotter than it is. Spent a couple of hours in a cafe by the water (only one of us eating, the other had just a couple of potato wedges, which proved to be a mistake). Then two hours driving the 20 or so miles back. Rush hour seems to start at lunchtime. I may have burnt my arm as I was on the sunny side of the car most of the way.
8oz stale bread ( about half a loaf)
half a pint of milk
2oz melted butter
6oz dried mixed fruit
3oz dark brown soft sugar.
1egg
2tsp mixed spice
Cut the bread up and soak with the milk, leave it to stand until soggy ,melt butter and beat egg, mix into bread and milk with a fork .Add fruit ,sugar and spice .Give it a good beat with the the fork.Put into a buttered tin and bake for an hour or so on 150C or until a knife comes out out clean when you poke it.
I use a big tablespoon to measure an ounce .I rarely weigh anything unless it has to be really exact.I cook like my Mum did :)

Good morning all.
Shaney that looks so tasty. I can't stand cinnamon so yes Jno maybe some ginger
Lovely sunny day here. After the shopping we went for a walk on promenade and then a coffee. Mr N has a dold! So nice quiet weekend for us. Have ordered a juicy spit roast chicken and real chips for tomorrow's lunch as not eating out. Have had enough of eating out!
