This has been debated before in terms of actors most likely to, and Bond's ethnicity (irrelevant), his sexuality (some portrayals could work against the character's, well, character), etc etc. now that Daniel Craig is known to be leaving the franchise, up pops Tom Hardy as a leading contender.

So, given that in Fleming's books, Bond is the suave, well dressed groomed representative of HM Government, would a scruffy, tattoed, straggly bearded Bond work? or is appearance (like ethicity) totally irrelevant?

IDRIS IDRIS IDRIS !! CORRRR !!!!
Haha, as soon as I saw the title of this thread I knew Tez would be first up.
In this PC world his character in the books will be ignored. Personally I'd like a clean shaven Christian Bale (not that he'd lower himself).
I wonder if the Bond franchise can stretch to a tailor, some concealer if need be and a barber.
More than likely I'd say.
I don't watch Bond films but anything other than a white bloke is a joke.

fleming never hinted at the ethnicity of Bond. he did describe his appearance, and it wasn't an unshaven scruffbag a la tom hardy.
He'd do!

50 odd years of Bond films have hinted that he is white.

that's only cubby broccoli's interpretation.
Ian Fleming's image of 007 attached on the right. Looks pretty white to me.

Looks nothing like Daniel Craig either... maybe it is time to get rid of a few prejudices then. Does it really matter what colour he is?
If he has been white for 50 odd years I would say yes it does. What next Rowan Atkinson as Shaft?
Why not? Isn't it about time we stopped excluding people purely on their colour? I can't believe I'm actually needing to type that.... it's an acting job- a character...
It's a story written about a white guy. So by denying that one is being prejudiced? I don't see this has anything to do with prejudice. Perhaps the next one should be a woman.
Talbot..not being female you just don't get it !!!

Don't recall reading "white" in the books
Could be prudie. It's more that it seems "white" is important. Why would you categorise anyone that way?
