This has been debated before in terms of actors most likely to, and Bond's ethnicity (irrelevant), his sexuality (some portrayals could work against the character's, well, character), etc etc. now that Daniel Craig is known to be leaving the franchise, up pops Tom Hardy as a leading contender.

So, given that in Fleming's books, Bond is the suave, well dressed groomed representative of HM Government, would a scruffy, tattoed, straggly bearded Bond work? or is appearance (like ethicity) totally irrelevant?

I was always led to believe that James Bond was a ex Commander Bond R.N.
Any one know of any black naval commanders who served in British naval intelligence as Ian Fleming did and were there any black naval commanders about the time of the cold war or whenever spectre appeared in From Russia with Love or Casino Royale. A well tailored and groomed white Bond or it isn't James Bond IMO. Calling M "Boss" isn't British. :-)
never have never will watch a bond non event but why not a bond lady and no other than the wonderful Jennifer bond

//but why not a bond lady....//

because one of the central planks of the characterisation is Bond's womanising......... oh.

a gay lady bond it is then.
I always thought that James Bond was a code name for any agent at that particular time on that particular mission- then (I believe) one of the films showed a little of his back story (father childhood home) and it was in no way suggested he was of colour.
That is not to say that another 007 agent might not be (or even - heaven forfend - a women)
Saying that I can count on two fingers the bond films I have seen
''it's a character. Colour is totally irrelevant''

As is height. Any other votes for Warwick Davis?
Lol ... I've missed that bloke up there ^

So have I, where has snags been? Is height irrelevant? 007 position has no height restrictions? I don't know.
How about Susan Calman?
There was an article recently about Craig saying that he`d do it again if his wife was ok with it. So there may be no vacancy.

Ha ha rockyracoon you know me well x
Never heard of it divebuddy
You've never heard of 'The Great White Hope' then?

In days gone by black boxers dominated the heavyweight division, if a white heavyweight looked like he may have the ability to have a pop at the top spot he was dubbed 'the great white hope' I never saw a problem with that.

Then again I don't see many of the problems others see!
