It Follows, The Entity (an 80's film) and a film which I can't remember the name of, but it was about a young couple in the USA living in a lovely modern home but they were terrorised by an evil spirit that would stop at nothing to kill them and possess their souls - may sound corny, but it was VERY scary ! I also love a good ghost story, especially the old ones written many years ago which are very atmospheric like Whistle and I will come to you My Lad.
The Whicker Man, the Edward Woodward version, I didn't realise what it was, I never usually watch films where I need a cushion, and the ending really shocked me.
My first scary films were the likes of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy. All quite laughable now. I suppose it has to be The Exorcist. I haven't really watched a lot of scary stuff for years. Doesn't really interest me anymore.
When I was in my mid teens my friend asked if I wanted to go to see an X film.
At the time the big film around was the erotic film Emmanuelle.
I assumed that this film, having a girl's name as the title, would be similar.
We got in, despite being underage. My mate never suggested it was anything other than soft porn.
The Haunting 1963 Scared the pants off me . The haunted house in the movie was called ( Hill House ) which is strange because I now live in a house that's built on top of a hill.
Other than the occasional ‘jump-scare’ (Mark
Kermode loves jumps scares), I don’t think I’ve ever actually been scared about a horror film because, well, they’re just films.
However, as a young teenager in the 80s I watched Threads (if anybody remembers it - from
memory it was a BBC drama) which was about the aftermath of a nuclear war, and that scares the bejesus out of me.
