Goodness me, I remember my Mum telling me about her and I am 63. Will look it up for you.
1921. The year after my Mum was born.

I didn't realise she was still alive. Just heading towards 90! Pretty wasn't she?
I used to watch her films as a kid, i loved them.

I can't remember her in any films, although I did love the old films of the late 30's/40's. She sung didn't she?
Makes me sad. My parents had that at their wedding.

Hi Loftylottie, my father-in-law loved Deanna Durbin, she's not ever spoken about anymore in the media.
I just remember my Mum talking about her and saying what a beautiful voice she had. Apparently, she steered clear of publiciity as she got older and just got on with a normal life. Somewhat different from today's so called celebrities, eh. At least she had good reason to be a celebrity.
Strewth - I was only taking to someone last night about D D . We had several of her records on old 78's - favourite was 'When April Sings'. (I also know lots of Richard Tauber's greatest hits!)
Question Author
Deanna made 21 films. When I asked her why this was, she said that Universal, her studio, called the shots, and she had no say in the matter.
Only one film was in colour,"Can't Help Singing", which showed off her beautiful auburn hair. Her voice was exceptional, and she recorded some operatic arias, among others which were written for her. Her films would seem outdated today, but she, and her films, if shown on TV, would make a refreshing contrast to some of the rubbish which is currently churned out.
