They don't rebel. There was a family living next door for a while, they only stayed about nine months and then went back to Ireland. They were lovely. The children were always with their mother and their father wasn't far away - mostly out gathering scrap metal to get money to feed all the hungry little mouths (5 of them). For their confirmation the girls were dressed in pretty white dresses - they looked like little brides, so sweet, nothing as big as they are showing on tv. It seemed to me that all the first born boys were named Patrick and the first girl was named Mary. They came in my house regularly because they liked the cakes I baked - i ended up baking for them every day and I loved it. I was sad when they went back but one or other of them come back now and then to see me. They don't forget.

thats one family out of many star. I said yesterday I speak to some round here, others just go out to start fights and are banned from most pubs in the town. You have to be so carefull what you say to them all round here.

caran, they get their money by selling scrap metal, which they 'borrowed' , doing any jobs, such as tree felling, tarmacing (badly) etc, and they don't pay any taxes at all!.............quids in!................I may become a traveller!.............

They are houseproud and their homes are spotless, but they leave their rubbish and muck all over the place and don't care a jot about others. Sorry but I haven't any time for them at all.

true, some keep parking on bit just opposite mine loftie. And everytime they go they leave cr@p everywhere. And dont get me started on the horses in the field that have been there years now on land they dont own!! they escaped onto road other night.

Lottie I know, I used to run an hotel years ago, and they booked a wedding reception with us, I didn't know they were travellers at the time!............in fairness to them, they were respectful, spent lots and lots of money, but when I saw them arriving, I was more than a little anxious!................

I know where you mean 4get and I have seen the horses. Police are just frightened of them.

I am not a prejudiced person but they are the one group of people in this country that seem to be given everything, give very little back and are above the law. I simply don't understand why.

The groom said he was a farm hand labourer, not very well paid i should think, Collecting and selling scrap metal then must be very lucrative. One of the young women buys a new dress for 15 weddings a year at £300 a time???

I have a couiple of traveller family clients, who are subject to some nasty police harassment, and frankly, as clients, theyh are a bloody sight easier than some non traveller clients. I have some sympathy with them.

Dresses are bloody awful mind.

There are some travellers around here but they keep themselves to themselves. I did have to tell them that our old landlady was trying to screw them over (cow that she was) and they were very grateful - reckon I have got some friends for life there.

To be fair, the ones that had their wedding reception at our hotel were fine, very well behaved, but I still don't think they should be allowed to live tax free in the UK, we have to pay, so why not them?.............

I noticed that pussnboots. I wish I could afford a dress for £300 and only wear it once. They must be very rich. Wonder what they do with their left-offs? Car boot sales? I noticed the cars were big and luxurious too.
