They have a close group mentality to protect their own from outsiders. We could learn that trait and beat the system too.

I deal with them often.
Pack animals.
great programme, very interesting to learn about their culture, some of the replies seem quite nasty on this post.IMO
But is it accepted that this "under class" (I don't like this phrase either) live this way and is a blind eye turned to it by the authorities and police.

e.g. A gypsy child leaves school at 11 and nothing is done about it as you say. The family of a child on a big city estate would surely be chased by the authorities.
Do you know many gypsies Anne?
anne. Do you live in an area where there are lots of travellers and have you experienced what they do to an area? I am usually a tolerant person but I am afraid that this doesn't stretch to travellers any more.

There will obviously be exceptions.
a very fair point mick.......... and no i have never been in contact with travellers, and i have no doubt they all dont live honest lives, but re the programme i do admire some aspects of their culture.
Which particular aspects Anne?
Which ones Anne ?

the fact that re the programme the children respect their parents, dont "sleep around " before marriage, and are loyal to their culture. but yes lottie as i stated before i have no experience of living near traveling people
Yes those family values are good housemouse. I would agree. But they generallly have no respect for the community outside of there own whatsoever.
If I hadn't seen what I see around me here then I would probably be less vocal and more sympathetic towards the travelling community. But I have seen and heard of some dreadful things and to be honest they do cause a great deal of trouble in my area.
LOL. The male figure in a typical gypsy family is a bully and dictator.
He will bring little John Boy, along to the local boxing gym. and tell you

"he is overloaded with boxing talent" Little Johnny has no choice, but to do what dad says, even though he is *** himself.
I'm surprised that so many people have such a great knowledge of gypsies, as they do not tend to socialise with outsiders very much, and I can only imagine a lot of peoples' impressions have been gained by bad experiences with the very few gypsies they have actually met.
Some of my cousins are gypsies, and surprisingly they have no police convictions and do pay their taxes.....I guess they must be abnormal.
Faux gypies Crafty, they must be a real let down to the real ones ;0)

lol Mick having done their family tree I'm not sure their ancestors were quite as good, although they all appeared to be herb sellers and flower hawkers.
We`ve got a hard standing for Irish gypsies not 500m from here. To be fair they don`t cause much trouble but they are very light fingered. I`ve watched them and their small children in action at Kempton Market and they`ve got stealing down to a fine art. They fly tip as well. They dumped a car in our garage block which we had to pay to remove because it was on private land. Because they live on a permanent block they don`t mess it up but a couple of years ago a group of gypsies camped on a field near the airport. When they left anyone would have been forgiven for thinking there had been a plane crash such was the amount of rubbish they left behind. I don`t care what good points they have (if any) that kind of behaviour isn`t acceptable and they shouldn`t live outside of the law.
