The Killing - why is it always raining?

Been watching and enjoying it but it always seems to be pouring with rain. Is the weather really so wet in that part of the USA or is it just to add a bit of atmosphere to the proceedings?

Have you started watching the Danish version? I didn't watch it the first time round, but it has been on every night so far this week. It is a bit different to the US one, but the weather is still bleak. I think the US set it in Seattle because of the rain.
