Cracked Windscreen

A chip has just turned into a crack all across my windscreen as of 20.30 tonight. I have a job interview tomorrow at 11 so can not get it replaced first thing. Is it safe to drive until i get back from the interview?, its a 60 mile round trip

Should be OK for a short trip like that though technically it is illegal because of MOT rules.

I had to drive from Southampton to london a few years ago with a crack across my windscreen, perfectly safe.

Only drive on newly surfaced roads and you'll be fine.

Utter rubbish! A windscreen crack can weaken at any time, especially if the car hits a pot-hole or similar.

Might look a bit rubbish turning up for an interview in a car with a big crack across the windscreen.

Is it a laminated windscreen ? if so it is quite safe to drive .

Start planning your contingency now, you'll be nervous enough without worrying about the car making it (presuming you want the job).

Now windscreens don't shatter they are much safer. The fact you are driving in daylight means reflected beams are not a problem. Courier drivers always get cracked screens and rather lose out on trade usually keep driving for long periods after.

I'd do it. I was driving round for months with two huge cracks in my screen.

Im aware of the legal ramifications, Im just looking at my options regarding getting to the interview. I know it's not completely safe, and i will be getting it fixed. I now have to decide wether to risk driving, hire a car, or try and get a lift at short notice. The windscreen is only 3 months old, had a crack across it last year and had it replaced by Autoglass, just really bad luck it has happened ageing so soon. I can not get it replaced as i have to ring insurers first and then arrange fitting, plus get to Manchester for 11

Insurers might be there now and Autoglass is 24 hours a day.

I would make a joke about this but you would not appreciate any cracks from me.

I am with you on this one and think you should not lose your interview. As long as the crack does not obscure your vision then you will be fine. You come here for our support, not judgement.

If it cracked while you were mid journey would get it towed home and jump in a cab? Nah, you'd just drive it the rest of the way. The chances of the screen collapsing are slim to none.
