It seems it is the way things go. Newcomers, be they countries or companies, sell low quality stuff and are a laughing stock, until they improve enough to capitalise on their gained, sizeable, market share; and then they become a premium brand/location.
But its not a Skoda anymore - its a polo - more or less. Its not cheap either.
I am amazed that VW kept the brand. I still cant think of skoda without at least a reference back to the early models
We've got an Octavia VRS Estate, 220bhp, 155mph and 0-62mph takes 6.8 seconds. Good build quality, great handling and quickest dog carrier we've had to date, it's a lot of fun. I very often use it in preference to the Beemer.

Things changed dramatically when VW took over. Everything comes out of the VW/Audi parts bins now. They are even distant cousins of the Bugatti Veyron.
I have had 3 in the past, one rear engined the other 2 had the engine in the front, no trouble with any of them, I did miss the tow rope, but that is another story.
