Song banned in about 1978/9

Can anybody remember a song released in about 1978/79 about a British soldier who lay on a bomb in a station in N. Ireland and so saved lots of lives. I believe the song was banned by the BBC.

Cant be '19' that was in the 80's and about the average age of   a US soldier in the Vietnam war. No idea what song Kelvin is refering to though- sorry!

I have the song on a video compilation of incidents made for me by friends whilst serving in Northern Ireland.  It pertains to this incident at an RUC Station in Belfast:

Many tragedies occurred in and around the station, including the murder of soldier Marcel Doglay, and that of Sergeant Michael Willets of the Parachute Regiment. Sergeant Willets died on 25 May 1971, when a suitcase containing 30lbs of explosives was thrown into the enquiry office. In those early days of the troubles the high protective walls around the station had not yet been put in place.

Visiting the enquiry office at the time, were members of the public going about their business, including two young children. The sergeant thrust the children into a corner and shielded them, as the bomb exploded. He took the full force of the blast and died of his injuries. Sergeant Willets was posthumously awarded the George Cross.

A very, very brave man.

I saw Harvey Andrews at a pub in Hednesford many years ago and he kindlysigned a CD of his songs - there are afew on there that make me cry ('shesaw him smile' for one) - but I havenever heard of this. I'm glad someoneelse has heard of him, and appreciates a true songwriting talent.

Oh my god Kelvin this is such a welcome blast from the past - I had this record on single vinyl years ago and thought that nobody else would ever have heard of it.

Unfortunately I was stupid enough to lend it to someone and of course never saw it again.

I used to be able to sing it the whole way through, but now can only remember some bits of it:

"The soldier moved towards the bomb his stomach like a stone

Why was this his battle, Lord why was he alone?

He lay down on the package and he murmured some farewells,

To those at home in England and to those he loved so well"

So poignant.  It was fantastic and I MUST get a copy of it somewhere.  Have you found anything out about where to get/download/steal it?

<STRONG>Kelvin </STRONG>- my Dad and I both have a fewCD's of Harvey, but they were all boughtfrom the man himself at gigs. He usedto do quite a few gigs around the Midlands but now I have moved away I'mnot sure if he still does. He used todo a few with Jasper Carrott as, I think, he (Harvey) used to be JC'smanager.
