As you are no doubt aware, on this date 30 years ago we were waking up to the news that Freddie had died. Throughout today, in memory of his brilliance, i will be posting music by Queen. And where better to begin than at the beginning;

He had such a great range, Pixie. I watched the documentary on him the other night, 'Freddie Mercury: In His Own Words' and there was a voice coach explaining how it was possible for Freddie to achieve such a range. Far too technical for me to recall all he said, but it basically boiled down to Freddie possessing a 4 octave range.

Unbeatable. Glad you posted this, as I had forgotten how many still give me goosebumps, after so many years x
Hi Ken, It was a sad day indeed. I can't recall why I wasn't at work that day but my Brother (A Sparky) came home for something and told me, I didn't believe him at first the way just said 'Freddie's died hasn't he'. I put the radio on as he said they're dedicating it to him on radio one.

I've always found it so difficult choosing a favourite album but always remember when I back-tracked and first played 'Sheer Heart Attack' and was so blown away, I was constantly flipping that vinyl all weekend alas I had to go to school on Monday. It remains in top three even now, the other two always seem to change.
Good old-fashioned Lover Boy... they used this in ballroom dancing lessons lol

Wondered where you were, Arky :-)

A lady friend of mine gave me the bad news by phone. Just two words, "Freddie's gone." Of course, he had confirmed he was HIV positive in the papers, the day before his death. Must've known he didn't have long left.

Well it was obvious even at the Brit awards and his revealing admission days before he passed away, I was still in disbelief.
Dad had ANATO on Audio tape, earning extra pocket I used take my time cleaning the inside of his car. He used to mumble something about flattening the car battery.

Written by Brian May, Pixie. He says that he had concerns as to whether Freddie was physically capable of singing it. Freddie's reply was "I'll ******* do it darling." Vodka down and he went and nailed the song.
Crazy little thing called love, was a good one..
