As you are no doubt aware, on this date 30 years ago we were waking up to the news that Freddie had died. Throughout today, in memory of his brilliance, i will be posting music by Queen. And where better to begin than at the beginning;

30 years...gosh it seems way more recent.
I was at school, very memorable. I think Eric Carr died the same day and was mostly forgotten about?

My very first favourite song, and still is one...

My all time favourite!

Snap :-)
One of my favourites, too! :-)

I saw Queen on their first national tour, supporting Mott the Hoople. They were superb, confident, great songs, a tight band with a charismatic frontman.

Yep, 30 long years that have somehow become 30 short years. Such is the passage of time.
Eric Carr did die on the same day, Pixie but his passing was (perhaps understandably) overshadowed by that of Freddie.
That first album was, in my most humble of opinions, Queen's best. Despite their skills not being as honed as they were on later albums, despite those albums containing some never-to-be-forgotten tracks, their debut album had a bit of everything Queen were as a band. I will be forever indebted to my army mate who bought the album having heard they were a very 'heavy' band, only to decide they weren't heavy enough for him. He walked into my room, threw the album on my bed and said, "If you like them, you can keep it." I was blown away. Thanks, Bob :-))
I wasn't even particularly a general fan at the time, but he has to be possibly the best-ever vocalist and frontman.

In the eyes of many (myself obviously included) there is no 'possibly about it, Pixie :-)

Nor to me :-) but was attempting some tact :-)
Great band. My friends Dad loved them and when he died a few years ago the last song played was "Another One Bites the Dust".

My favourite is 'Keep Yourself Alive'. Takes me back to when I was 17. Starting work, boyfriend, different pub every night. Everything was so exciting then.
