I think Dot was on a few weeks ago...certainly fairly recently.
teacake44 ^^^ war torn.

war-torn
Thanks pasta. I must have missed that. Glad to hear it.
Terrible time for some people. Must be soul destroying. We've just had an almighty boom of thunder, and ferocious gusts of winds and torrential rain. Scary! I only said about half an hour ago it was good that the winds have died down...How quickly it all changed!
Question Author
Well, Dot, if you're looking in, we hope you're ok.
Question Author
Yes, Patsy. It seemed to have abated but is back with a bang.
Well many abers appear to still have electricity to have a wee Sunday afternoon spat with each other.
We pity the people who have been flooded......we know a couple of families very well and yes as Tills says " Proper flood defences need to be planned and put into as soon as possible, preferably before next winter." Question is.....will the "green lobby" allow such things without making an almighty fuss and challenging every decision on the grounds of environmental sustainability? Bet your life that they wont't. They have got used, and addicted, to the buzz of being on the news and crave more of the same.
It is the quick changes, Patsy and unexpected thunder and lightning.....enough now!
Hope Dot is safe.....x
What chance that the greatest living authority on bridges could put his fevered imagination to one side and use the available funds to address this pressing problem.

The massive public works project could be titled Boris Barriers as a wee ego boost for the tousled one.
Question Author
Well, I didn't want this to become a political thread but where can the government easily find a few billion pounds for flood defences? Any ideas?
From the place he was going to get the billions for building the bridge from N Ireland to Scotland.
Question Author
Yes, possibly, Clover.

Any more?
A few squillion quid Tills? Easy peasy. How about diveyting the overseas aid that is squandered or is busy getting water to places that mother earth says shouldn't have any?
Question Author
Possibly, Togo. The Water Aid reference is very apt.

Any more?

Question Author
That was my thought, Gness. Spot on!
Thanks, Tilly......makes sense doesn't it....x
It'll be interesting seeing how the low-laying areas of the HS2 route are dealt with during construction. I wonder quite how much consideration has been given to the frequency with which journeys along this high-speed route will be slowed or abandoned due to water on the tracks?
