I have voted in every General Election for the past sixty years and not once has my vote counted because of our first past the post system. Until we get proportional representation it seems I shall miss out - unless I move house ...... or party!

The result of the referendum wasn't legally binding. As I mentioned, your only quarrel can be with Tory MPs.
The closeness of result is irrelevant, btw. The majority wanted to leave. If a close result was unacceptable, then they should have stated beforehand, that it had to be at least 60/40 (say). But they didn't. And why are the wishes of a minority, more important, no matter how close the resul
It was, once they agreed to uphold it. Honestly, would you be saying that, if remain had edged it?
I take it you're not voting Conservative then, pixie?
Answer the question. And saying 'a lot of people have died since then', doesn't wash. A lot of people have died since the last general election but that doesn't mean we ignore the result of that.
I voted leave and I'm not dead !!! Stupid, stupid comment, but only to be expected ...
I already have, zacs. My belief, rightly or wrongly, is that Boris is egotistical enough to not want to fail at what he has promised.
'A lot of people have died since the last general election but that doesn't mean we ignore the result of that.'

Well.it was kind-of ignored when T May called a GE and now Boris has called another before the term is up so.....I think you're on shakey ground at best there, N.

"A lot of people have died since the last general election but that doesn't mean we ignore the result of that."

But we have consistent general elections. It happens every 5 years. Not comparable.

"I voted leave and I'm not dead !"

I never said or implied that you were, but a solid fact is that many people have died since 2017.

Also many can now vote who couldn't in 2017. That's my point. Don't take it personally HereIAm.
pixie, I find your condemnation of the government ignoring the will of the people and then voting to put them back in power either blindly optimistic, or plain daft.
Not necessarily every 5 years, TD. And the referendum should then be taken more seriously, not less.... as it is more long-term.
GE's have happen far more frequently than every 5 years in the last term, TD!

"do you not think, that as most of the country want to leave, that that should actually be respected?
What is democracy otherwise?"

Honestly, I believe we were lied to. Miss informed and ill judged.

Lets have some clarity for once.

Another referendum is my vote.

Vote Green.

"And the referendum should then be taken more seriously, not less.... as it is more long-term."

My point exactly, so lets not rush into it, lets make sure, and have a final say now we are all properly informed.
The government was full of Remainers. Which party, zacs, do you think will achieve Brexit, best and fastest?
TD, people die every day... always have. That has never been an excuse before to ignore votes. If a referendum is once in a generation, it goes without saying. Are you presuming only older people wanted to leave? It doesn't make a difference in any case. We were asked at the time, and gave a very clear answer.... and it needs to be done.
TD, that really is the most ridiculous argument. People have died so let's do it again. And then when people die after that, we'll do it again... and again ...and eventually once we get a result that suits you people dying will be irrelevant.
Question Author
"Are you presuming only older people wanted to leave?"

Not at all, and if we voted again and leave won the majority I would be fine with that, because people knew what they were voting for, and it was a fair vote.
TD //, but a solid fact is that many people have died since 2017.//
So what you are saying is that after a period of time, say a year, because during that time a substantial number of people will have died, we should have another referendum ad infinitum?

"The government was full of Remainers. Which party, zacs, do you think will achieve Brexit, best and fastest?"

The Brexit Party.
