He was using them to demonstrate how ridiculous it is to use such factoids as a basis for racial prejudice. The point he was (fairly obviously) trying to make was that it's ridiculous to conclude that black men have a predisposition toward gang rape because they're disproportionately represented amongst its perpetrators in this country, in the same way that it -would be- ridiculous to argue that white men have a predisposition towards pedophilia because they're disproportionately represented amongst its perpetrators in this country.

I'm not interested in joining in this personal stuff (hence why I don't post much anymore), but I really really dislike it when people are deliberately obtuse.
