I would be scared out of my wits but am a great believer in self defence even hit the ba*****s before they get a chance to hit you. And if there was more than one then I believe he was quite justified in using a knife. I have a lovely butchers knife in my cutlery drawer, but I don't know if I would get a chance to get it. Pity he took a life, but I don't suppose he meant it, just protecting himself and his family.
agree with starbuck!.....If you find someone having broken into your home, you must be in a state of panic and rage too!.......you would feel the need to defend yourself, your family and your home!........sad that the guy lost his life, but, has to be said that if he hadn't been burglaring the home of this man, then he'd be alive and well now!..........he took a chance, and lost!.......
I doubt I would have the presence of mind to actually do anything but I do find this quite interesting. It wasn't like the householder had been sitting there for years, just waiting his/her chance to stab someone when they eventually broke into his/her house. If the burglar hadn't been there he wouldn't have got stabbed - simples (tough Sugar basically).
Some very brave people on here and I agree that's we would all want to inflict serious injury on such a burglar.
So you are going to defend your wife, children and home? so you are armed with a great big knife, do you think the burglar is going to let you attack him? the chances are this burglar has had more experience than you in how to wield a knife, what if he takes that knife from you in the struggle, he is now armed, you have possibly been stabbed in the struggle, now who is going to protect your wife and kids? He now has a knife and is pi$$ed off!
I think it is instinctive to fight in that situation but is it really the safest way to protect your family?
Probably not!

No one knows how they will react in tthis sort of situation but i think you draw alot of strength in a fight or flight situation, its your instinct to protect your own, sure come into my home with threatening behaviour, they can take what they want materialistically, but harm my kids, no way, i would happily do time protecting them. that is what i am here for to protect them and that is exactly what i would do, what ever it took.
ratter i was told this by a friend who was in the army, and its not like you say well wait while i smack you in the temple, its was suggested if you were being attacked that is the place to hit them, preferably with the fist, sound violent i know, but he said it does stop the person going any further.
