I am not a DM reader but saw this on the Mathew Wright programme when I came in from the Dentist
Were they right to go and tell the Cafe owner they would arrest him?

Yes.

Especially if he deliberately used passages like that one. I'd be furious if i nipped in for a coffee with my little 'un and she raid that out and asked what it meant.
<Jamie Murray was warned by two police officers to stop playing DVDs of the New Testament in his cafe following a complaint from a customer that it was inciting hatred against homosexuals.>

If that's the case....absolutely.
raid? I meant read.

Question Author
So should he be banned from playing Christian DVDs?
did he specifically have this particular passage from the Bible static?
if so, then Yes, I have to agree, he was very, very wrong
-- answer removed --
He can play anything he wants...as long as it doesn't incite hatred, which is against the law.
Question Author
It's A Christian Cafe...whatever that is?, I haven't heard of this before
and he has supposedly been playing the NT for a good few years now
"A spokesman said they were ‘duty bound’ to respond to the complaint and had concluded the cafe could be in breach of Section 29E of the Public Order Act, which warns that people who play images or sounds that stir up hatred against homosexuals could be guilty of an offence."

yep, right thing to do. job done, move on, write a very long a dreary article about the bible and inlcude some passages about gays, some side refs to terrorists and islamicisistics etc etc drone drone drone........
but if that's the messages that are displaying Bobbs, they should be removed, no matter how many years they've been showing.
Question Author
This is what I wanted to clarify BOO, was he displaying this message as a static message?
one taken from the NT, if so, I absolutely agree, or was it one picked out when a DVD was showing? that would take some watching?
and please can someone enlighten me to what a CC is?
who wants to listen/watch DVD's whilst chomping on a bacon butty anyway...give me Radio 2 in background anyday...and brown sauce for the butty....

exactly MM
A Christian cafe is a cafe run by a Christian. They probably have 'Daily bread' and such like, for customers to read. People from their church probably use the cafe....
There are plenty of Christian cafes and coffee shops. They usually have Christian books for sale, and pamphlets on display.
They sometimes arrange Bible readings, prayer groups and counselling, usually in a separate room to the cafe, or outside normal opening hours.

The dvds he play on a continual loop is text from the Bible, that flashes on the screen. It is a 26 hour long series and no one passage stays on the screen for long.

By this reasoning, Jews, Muslims, Christians and those of other faiths would be barred from quoting certain passages from their own holy books in their own places of worship or in any place accessible to the public.

thanks :-)
<<The Salt and Light cafe in Blackpool has for years repeatedly played the entire 26-hour-long Watchword Bible, a 15-DVD set produced in America in which a narrator reads the whole of the New Testament, on a small flatscreen TV on the back wall.>>

This is an incredibly tedious reading of the Watchword bible which is played, more or less, on a permanent loop.
A Christian Cafe is one run by Christians proselytising for the Christian faith. There are numerous flyers, leaflets, pamphlets, booklets and many other --lets for the 'interested' customer (i.e. someone gasping for a cuppa who has had the misfortune to wander into this particular establishment) to peruse the moment that the scarily grinning proprietor thrusts them under their nose.....
