Alcoholic, drug abusers and smokers have a binary choice. You either continue with your habit or face the consequences.
Overweight people have a different challenge. They are supposed to limit their intake of 'bad' food.
It's the equivalent of telling a heroin addict, "You can inject, but only on special occasions - christenings and birthdays".
Not really comparable.

I have only just read this thread, but on the 2nd page AOG states

I rather think that is because these foods are cheap and filling. A plate of friut and/or veg is filling, but only for a short time.

Then you might as well also say:
Overweight people have the same challenge they either continue with your over eating habit or face the consequences.
All one of the same.
Notice while you were contributing to this thread, it was rather strange that you did not remark on the story about those Muslims giving out death threat notices aimed at gays.
Since you mostly enter threads about homosexuals, which in turn attract many answers, for some reason this time you and others chose to ignore those death threats towards them.
Was it because it was a question of split loyalties?

But I still think my query was acceptable, that being why this question only attracted five replies apart from my two and your latest one.
I would have thought that most ABers would be clambering to register their utter disgust.

The only thing I can add is that if I were a religious fundamentalist and went around posting things like that through letterboxes, I would have the balls to stand up for my convictions and not squirm my way out of it. One of the defendents said that he had nothing against gays, and that one of his lecturer's was gay, "and he's my favourite lecturer".
Peter Tatchell recently said (and I agree) that we should stop persecutions of any one who preaches that homosexuality is a sin.
Fair play - to them, it IS a sin, and they should be allowed (as well as Christians, Jews, Hindus etc), to preach that.
However, there has to be a line drawn - you cannot call for the murder of anyone, even if your religion explicitly condones it.
According to the Bible, women who commit adultery should be stoned. That may be the case, but if I stood on the corner of our high street calling for the murder of women who'd committed that particular sin, it would be right for me to be pulled up for it.
