HMS Ocean is a helicopter carrier.
it says until 2010, it carried 22 aircraft.
WBM, might it have been USS Intrepid. I have photos of that too, somewhere....
em, HMS. Illustrious was an aircraft carrier equipped with sea Harriers. Quite a good combination!
it wasn't Intrepid em, I'll think of it about 3AM! :o}
At the time it was the oldest carrier in the US fleet. It had seen action in WWII!
the USS Nassau - that is a huge aircraft carrier - it helped out Houston/Galveston when H.Ike blew through.
They're obviously better with ships than subs then!
who?
WBM, possibly USS Enterprise, seems to fit the bill.
How long will this aircraft be in the Thames? Were in Cyprus at the minute and home on 9th may, would hate to miss a visit to London to see it.
pusskin see if i can find out. They are always worth a visit.
i worked at a shipping company in the east end of london, about a mile downstream of tower bridge. we had only small ships docking with us at our private wharf, but they all needed a pilot to guide them from southend to us in limehouse, as the water was shallow on the bends around dartford etc. i don't what draught an aircraft carrier has, but it must be dead risky trying to bring one of those up the thames.

Ah thanks em10. Much appreciated. Havent a spare minute really to google it. I'd love to jump on a train and visit the boat while its in dock. (20 min train ride for us) many thanks x
firstly i wouldn't say there was a lot of room to spare, second i am not sure what the plans are.

Percy, you can see for yourself, it's still impressive..
Deggers, //look at the bbc news you could get one and a half carriers at once through that gap //

Do you actually know anything about seamanship? I don't think you've been watching the same news as me.
nor me, if the pictures i have posted are anything to go by.
