This is the most horrific news story I have read all year. I would never have believed it possible in the UK

A tragic accident.

The council or emergency services aren't really to blame for anything, whether they had been found that day or 10 days later they would have still been dead! How would the families of the council workers/ firemen feel had their family member been sent into a situation to clear a mudslide which wasn't posing an immediate threat to people and another incident occured causing more loss of life!

Its a tragic accident nd as has been said we shouldn't be so quick in trying to blame it on someone!

You could say that about any potential danger, much better to act to correct it rather than wait until someone is killed.

Regarding the risk to the members of various services, these people have to go out to various dangerous situations from people stuck on a mountain side, people in distress on the water, to mending pot-holes in the roads etc,etc. it is their job.

This was a tragic accident but the report says death would have been instantaneous.
There are far worse stories (of accidents and other things) in the media each day.

It is a sad story, not the most horrific, but sad. But what I find incredible is that I read that the tunnel was not searched because no LOCAL people were missing. Hard luck on those that were.
