In time, we will walk on other planets - we'll have to if we are to survive - but there can only ever be one first, and that was Neil Armstrong.
"It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small."

Neil Armstrong, August 5, 1930 - August 25, 2012
RIP to Mr. Armstrong, he always came across as a man that was humbled by his achievement.
Inevitable maybe but none the less sad for all that. I'm glad to have witnessed that great feat.
Very sad to hear this news. I watched it and I was 19 at the time. The first of two very brave men.
>>>I wonder if in my lifetime I will ever witness such bravery and determination again.

Do you mean him in particular, because if so he was just one of many men and women who took great risks during the space race.

Some died, both American and Russian (and others), in the pursuit of space exploration.

While he was brave I dont believe was any braver than others who went up in those rockets and risked their lives in the knowledge they may not be able to get back.
very true VHG..

I just told my mum that Neil Armstrong had passed away.

She replied, "Oh, I loved The Jazz Singer."

That's not a joke btw.
Neil Diamonds performance of solitary man when he first stepped on the moon was a moment to remember though.....
Have you got a link, Chuck ?
I'm still shaking my head disbelief... :(

Thats very sad. I still remember seeing the grainy black and white pictures of the moon landing at school, where we had all been gathered to watch it.

Fantastic achievement, and he always seemed pretty modest about the whole episode.
The Greatest Hero ....RIP.
i was nine - we assembled in our school hall to watch the tv programme.
that was wht started my interest in the space programme.
RIP Neil, the first of an era. What an achievement.
Without making light of A great mans passing, I did Lol at Nom's post when telling her Mum.
