Just heard on the news that the second policewoman who was shot has died.

i confess that i do not see it like that, like the foolish judge who said that the burglar he sentenced was brave, as he wouldn't have the courage to go into a person's house to do what he did, what a moron. The man who shot those two officers, if it indeed was him, what will he get, a life sentence, one where he spends the rest of his natural life in prison, unlikely, but he should.

if you have evidence that cops in countries where they are routinely armed don't get killed that would be interesting.

I agree dna will nail many killers which is good. But dna can be planted, contaminated and misrepresented like any other forensics

Ruth Ellis was certainly 'guilty'. But hanging her was a sign of intolerance, prejudice and cruelty.
Ian Brady was certainly 'guilty' though arguably insane - either way i have no problem with the fact that we will keep him alive and incarcerated even though he wants to be dead.

I don't think capital punishment will return. All we can hope is that this particular criminal will recieve 2 life sentences and NEVER get out of prison. In reality this is unlikely. Yes, he'll get life sentence but he'll possibly be released after about 12 years. What TWR was saying about the laptop given to an inmate, whether true or not is what makes me angry. I realise that prison authorities have to "look after" prisoners in their care, but as for their human rights; I think a lot of them gave away their human rights when they raped or murdered. As long as they are kept dry, clean, warm and fed properly I think that's duty done!

I disagree.

Harry 'Cop Killer' Roberts was sentenced to Life with a recommended minimum term of 30 years.

That was 1966 and he is still inside

the two officers were wearing body armour, but one was shot at point blank range in the head, and the other was peppered with bullets, then he lobbed a hand grenade, so there is no chance on this earth they could have survived that onslaught.
It is well known that police officers get killed in countries where they are heavily armed, America is a prime example.
I have no answer to this, other than we should have commensurate sentencing, if the judge says life in prison then that is what it should be.

Ironically, and poignantly, one of yesterday's murdered Policewomen had apparently managed to get hers out, but what chance must she have had against a madman with a pistol and hand grenade? Obviously, they're designed for fairly close quarters use, but are rendered useless against firearms.

Many of our frustrations, and I include all sections of society - except of course scrotes - understandably become disillusioned when their perception of justice fails to be applied. As far as I'm concerned it's a combination of either the courts failing miserably to apply existing laws, and the need for perhaps more stringent legislation here and there?

Agreed about Cregan never being released not only because of his two other alleged victims, but also because of the two Police Officers' murders.

I'm not trying to claim that the lives of the Police are more valuable than anyone else - before we get the usual accusations to that effect - but it does seem as if the law itself seems to subscribe to that.
