Scottish Independance.

Oh I was about to contribute further on the topical question on Scotland's referendum on independence and there it was gone.

Anyone any idea why this question was removed?

But anyway I was going to congratulate our PM for managing to insist that the referendum should only contain a 'Yes' or 'No' vote, and we wasn't going to kow-tow to Scotland's request to provide further questions on the ballot paper such as proposing greater powers for the Scottish Parliament.

Perhaps because these computer 'spell checkers' don't show up that it is wrongly spelt.

Actually, how are they going to determine who can vote North of the border - what happens if you are English with property up there? Or say an English student at St Andrews? Are folk going to have to show their birth certificates along with proof of residence?

Isn't it going to be like any other vote? If you are on the electoral role you get a vote, if you aren't, you don't?

So the English in Scotland can vote, the Scots, south of the border, can't.

I don't see how else they can do it DT. Mr BM considers himself scottish but has not lived there for 25 years. I just do not see how he ought to be allowed to vote on a country where he doesn't live, doesn't pay taxes and is unlikely ever to do so again in the future.

It would surely require wholesale electoral reform (and would be a blinking nightmare as well) in order to try and just let Scots vote. And how would you then define a Scot? Is it by country of birth, or by domicile or what?

If you said this about Black people or Pakistanis you would be called a racist. So why do you think it is okay to say it about Scots?

but it won't be full Independence will it, where Scotland raises it own taxes, Health Service, currency, armed forces, it's not as though we even know the dividing line in Scotland, is it Berwick on Tweed?
As others have mentioned what about all the Scottish people who do not live in Scotland, do they get a say. Or those who live abroad, those of Scottish descent, all i can see is a vanity exercise by Alex Salmond.

There is a very clear dividing line between Scotland and England - there are evens road signs welcoming you to each country - depending which way you are travelly naturally.

where is it then. I have travelled to Scotland any number of times, confess it's been by train, but i have never noticed any signs which say welcome to Scotland.
