how wise is Prince Harry to admit publicly that he's killed Taliban? surely he's now going to need extra security....at the tax payers expense of course
Why all the criticism? He said that among his colleagues he is not special, and he does the same job as they do. If he’d said he’d never been put in a situation where it was necessary for him to shoot at the Taliban, he’d have been criticised for playing at soldiers from a privileged position. Seems to me whatever he says some are determined to criticise - even if they stoop to misrepresenting him in order to achieve it. He can't win!
naomi24 - i cannot comment directly, as i haven't seen the interview, but given that PH is far from being an 'ordinary' solider, i think he needs to manage his media soundbites with extreme caution.
As for killing people being the remit of a soldier - I dont think The Ministry Of Defence gives each infantry soldier a gun and trains them to shoot at targets that look like angry soldiers so they can fanny about on parade in Whitehall - do you?
I think the whole thing about the taliban and killing was very underplayed. He only emphasised that he would do what is necessary like any of his contemparies. You really need to see the interview Andy to appreciate his comments. I think Naomi is correct.
When he was younger he had available the best education that money could buy. Even with that he couldn't get the grades necessary to get himself into a red brick university.
Nice, maybe. Dim, probably.
As others have said, at no time did he say that he'd killed anyone.
He did indicate that he had engaged(fired upon) the enemy, adding that "but so has everyone out here".
With the sort of misleading headlines we've had from Sky and the Daily Mirror is it any wonder he has a deep seated mistrust and loathing for the press and media?
Sandy, there are a lot of dim academics, who only excel in their own narrow field of expertise and don't liknow much about the real world.
I thought Harry came across really well as a very capable soldier and anything but dim.
So what about Uni, he joined the Army and evidently enjoys the life.
As to the interviews, the Army must have sanctioned it, in part to attract potential recruits and to give an impression of life out there in Afghanistan/in a war theatre.
He's not as dim as his uncles, Princes Andrex and Deadwood.
Andy-hughes, //i cannot comment directly, as i haven't seen the interview//
In talking about ‘underlining it [killing people] to the media’, you have commented directly – and now, it seems, without knowledge of what was said, which would explain your inaccurate assumption.
Jake/sandyRoe, there are a lot of sour grapes around here.
