If they are going to be "independent" next year why do we let them have the ship building up there to the detriment of Portsmouth? Surely its a result for the UK they Leave the UK & EU so why bother giving them a bauble? Many have been saying it's political but I can't see how it can be, it must be some sort of commercial decision.

why would sweaties want baubles?

I don't understand either of these words in the context of your post/rant
Er, maybe it is a referendum bribe to stop them leaving?

It is very unlikely they will vote for full independence.

If they do they will be fast tracked into the EU.

yeah but why would we not want them to leave? It's lke having a spotty oink of a relative living in your back bedroom sponging of the family. Mum I'm leaving home, result!
Independence sounds like such a clean-cut, simple process. But it appears to be more like separating conjoined twins.

p.s. I really must buy a Panama hat, in time for next year. :-)
I am sure I heard they have more expertise with ship building?

I'm sure our scottish members think equally highly of you.
What the hell is a sweatie??? PLEASE.
Nah...not nearly as highly, Shoota!
Cannedgranny, I just posted a question on another related thread asking for the name of any ship built in Portsmouth...without looking it up, obviously...then do the same with Clydeside!
Sorry, your insulting terms for what I take to be foreign people are lost on me. Do you mean the Scots in this instance? If so, they remain part of the UK and will, by all accounts, remain so. So what is the problem?
hawksley... sweaty sock = Jock. English xenophobia.
This is a thread for those who either know or want to nip off and research derogatory slang.
Hawksley, the OP rarely finds it possible to post anything without using some mantra he imagines to be original and witty. Generally, they are neither. The reference you seek is sweaty sock = Jock, a form of rhyming slang.
ToraGeezerTora seems to be pathologically incapable of using the correct names for any 'foreigners'.

It is as tedious as it is juvenile.

I cannot believe there there has been no *policticking* in this decision.
Ah, your contribution wasn't there when I started on mine, J.

so you don't think they'll go for "independence" then Fred?
Thanks, jno and QM.

Tora do you have a similar term of insult or endearment for the English? If so, what is it?
be honest folks, this is really one of the funniest threads for some time .LOL
FredPuli, whingeing poms has a nice ring to it but somehow TTT seems disinclined to use it.
They are bound to make an attempt , Tora, and it is bound to fail.

But you can always expect, in the event of them achieving it, that the government of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will not permit anything which is adverse to the economy of those countries, unless there are compelling reasons to do so.
