Not really. If the local Int tells you that there is no friendly aircraft in your TAOR/airspace, anything in it will undoubtedly be deemed hostile.
This is in all probability a fire-and-forget SAM and someone has been trigger happy.
It certainly looks as though the decision made to fly through what is effectively a combat zone has proved catastrophic, sadly.

I have watched Ch 4 news tonight and it now looks like the airliner was shot down. It didn't just crash. By who, we will know within a day or two but its without doubt the work of forces within the turmoil that the Ukraine has now become. We have all sat around watching this tragedy unfolding in that part of the world for months now and I for one am not a bit surprised that this has happened.
The UN needs to get involved without any further delay, to stop this nonsense gathering any more speed. This was an accident waiting to happen.

Yeah, that'll show 'em! The UN and it's troops I such a situation would be about as much use as a catflap on a submarine. I know, I've been one.
Bar the odd minor dispute that is nothing more than handbags, the UN are useless, as was shown by yesterday's ruling over the Srebrenica Massacre.

The SBU (Ukraine Security Service) had a youtube video claiming to have an intercept of voice traffic of terrorists, proving they shot down the plane. But it was mysteriously removed.
At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, if it was shot down there is absolutely no question which side did it.
As for bringing the conflict to an end, easier said than done. Rather a shame if it takes something like this to make the EU wake up to the evil to their east. Tho Putin's daughter lives in the Netherlands, inconveniently for her perhaps just now ...

Agreed. That about wraps it up for Flightradar24. Even the 5 minute delay applied to FAA data (USA & Can) doesn't stop you seeing the thing coming your way and you're under a regular route.
You'll have noticed how all the exec jet traffic stopped transmitting tail reg numbers, about 6 months ago?
